Is it just me and my device?

I cannot remember when I last had a seamless update on my Go Live 1005. Each time I update with Mapshare or Quickfix, or to download a new map, there is a problem. Either the downloads do not complete (the whole shooting match just hangs), or My TomTom indicates that there is something wrong with my device, please disconnect and re-connect.

After numerous attempts - disconnecting, re-connecting, re-booting the device (all of the previous, or one or more of those), I finally succeed. I then have to go and lie down in a dark room until my blood pressure stabilises.....

Is anyone else having this problem ???

The only problem I have had recently is that even if the mapshare update is only a few kbs it still takes about 6 minutes to update my 1005. My Pc indicates that it is 100% updated within a few seconds but hem my 1005 appears to hang at 92% complete with 12 seconds remaining for the full 6 mins. I have e-mailed TT and they say that it is something to do with my device confirming with their server that the download is complete. Seems strange to me that it can download in a few seconds and then take so long to install and confirm. This has only occurred since the last upgrade of the navcore software. Prior to that the whole process took less than 2 minutes.
Other than that I have to say that my device updates correctly and works fine.

I assume you have checked that your My TomTom taskbar app is the latest?

Mine does exactly the same as Bunty1948's. Only one month old so everything should be up to date.

Have you checked MY TT SA to see if it is version 3.2.0.1055 ?

Certainly have, although this time I had to download it from the TT website. I'm sure in the past I was prompted to do that! However, I do have the latest app and it still takes 6 minutes after it's apparently completed the download.

It's not a big problem, but just a little annoying that it worked better before the "upgrade".

I've just checked the timings this morning and it took 31 secs to download 86kbs of mapshare and then a further 5mins 46secs to install and free up the 1005.

I also noticed that accourding to the TT forum news:-

"We have fixed an issue where settings got lost upon updating MyTomTom"

Well not on my device they haven't. Each and everytime I update my device, whether or not it is TT's own updates or 3rd party such as PGPSW it resets my "Turn on Voice Guidance" so that voice guidance is always on. Again not a major issue, but this didn't happen before the lastest navcore update.

Odd!!!

Same as the others, takes a long time to finish off the update.

Mine too! The Download is completed very quickly as I have a fast BB speed and a fast computer, however the actual Install, then takes much longer.

Again I had similar, but if you do a reboot with the drums, then it seems not to.

Same here, generally very flakey connections between MyTT and a NAV3 TomTom.

In fact I found that (against all our usual advice!) I got a more stable connection if I used one of the USB ports on the front of my PC, rather than a "proper" one at the back.
So switching to a different USB socket might be worth trying for SOME improvement.

--------------

For info, the "navigation instructions switched back on after an upddate" problm *is* a known bug, soon to be fixed.

Changed to another USB socket and updates in half a time. Smile

I have a Go 1005. Two days ago I had very major problems updating to the new map. I updated the o/s first as frequently mentioned but then the trouble started. Multiple downloads of the map using eventually three different usb ports and always the same. There is a problem with the device - disconnect etc - and every time it would get down to about 30 minutes left to install and it would stop and fall over. Of course no maps were installed. I phoned Tomtom customer service who could not have tried more to be helpful. What a delightful change from the old days - but rebooting - and resetting (Black and white screen and revolving cog) didn't make any difference. We had reached the point of sending back for repair or replacement by the seller (from previous TomTom experiences I bought a 3 year warranty) when I decided to download My Tomtom onto my wife's laptop and try there. All went well and the maps are back as, oddly - so are PGPS speed cameras and voices and my favourites. I thought they would have disappeared.
What a process, and having paid for map updates, I am now not sure I want to run the risk of turning the unit into a paper weight again. Is it worth uninstalling My Tomtom and downloading a fresh version or that clutching at straws?

If it worked well on another PC then I would suspect the installation of MyTT on the fist computer.

Rather then depending on the normal Windows uninstall routines, use something like the REVO Uninstaller to completely remove all traces of MyTT and then start afresh.

Thanks Andy,
If you say Revo is the way to go, then Revo it is. It had all worked well a number of times before but then this is Tomtom software.

On the contrary, I am convinced it's Tomtom's software. There are too many posts all over the place about the trouble people are having with the updates. And the only way I got round the problem was to use another laptop which hadn't had My Tomtom on before. Andy's post above is to make sure there are no bits of file left over if I decide to reinstall My Tomtom. CS also gave me quite detailed instructions about how to remove it.
Don't blame yourself. In my experience it is usually Tomtom's fault.
