The LTI 20-20 Ultralyte 1000 used by the majority of Police forces and camera partnerships around the UK, has a specified Maximum range of 1000M That’s just over 1/2 a mile? so if the Policeman says you were trapped at over 1 Mile! would that mean that the operator has not followed the correct use and guidelines for the equipment (i.e. at beyond recommended maximum ranges, and could possibly give a false reading) or does the driver accept the fact that he was clocked at 35mph in a 30MPH, and on this occasion, accept the Driving awareness training course in lieu of a fixed penalty and 3 points. Could this have been an instance, where the case could have been dropped if the driver was aware of those circumstances. This story has come about during a recent chat with a fellow driver. _________________ Device:TOMTOM START 52 & SNOOPER 3ZERO

As with all such cases, the answer depends on how deep your pockets are. Any attempt to fight the case will cost you.
Even if they first targeted you at over a mile, in all likelihood they will have taken more than one reading on the approach to their location.
LTi's 20-20 Speedscope Ultra-Lyte 1000 are Home Office approved up to 1000m which equates to 0.6miles. Uou can read the user-guide here). _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Darren. The Driver didnt think he was breaking the speed limit? It would also depend on the policemans mitigating circumstances at the time. Most operators I`ve spoken with have clearly stated that if a driver reduces his speed(if slightly over the limit) the job of enforcement has been done, by way of deterrent. Perhaps their just being nice or sly, however, none have hidden any details from their screens from me, so the system setup is clearly visible ?
However with the often stated 10% and +2mph correctional error guidance and his speed being recorded at 35, right on the limit, why have the correctional errors in the first place. at 33MPH he`s still breaking the law, and over 35MPH should then get the endorsement/fine or attend speed awareness training.
Theres probably more to this? _________________ Device:TOMTOM START 52 & SNOOPER 3ZERO

Not only that, with speedos over reading by up to 5%, that's Speed+5%+10%+2mph, so if your speedo is over reading by 5%, the speedo reading would be 30+5+10+2mph= 38.5MPH to 'get done' in a 30 zone and I would suggest that is a tad faster than 'inadvertently creeping slightly over the limit'. |

Unless of course you KNOW how much your speedo over-reads and have accounted for it.
Anyway... to the OP, you need to get over to www.pepipoo.com.
They will have far more knowledge about what defence is possible and sensible than most of us here. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |
