Fraid you're correct. current.gpx is simply a one way copy of what is stored in inaccessible memory. You could even delete it and your nuvi will simply recreate it again when it boots. As well as tracks, it contains any saved routes, favourites etc. |

I think I have a hit ................
There is a GPX\Archive folder that contains a load of x.GPX files. Mine goes from 1 to 12.
I've performed a search and I've found the same data in the Current.GPX file in one of these archives.
I assume that when you boot up, all data from any x.GPX files gets copied to the Current .GPX file
Next stage is to separate the Trip Log data from the favourites data so the Trip Log stuff can be removed.
I've looked further and I think the procedure is to leave all the Metadata and waypoint data behind but remove all the Track data which is within the trk /trk tags.
Failed
Even with no Archive files and with a base Current.GPX it still retrieves the Trip Log data from somewhere! _________________ Satnav:

Yes, I spotted you were logged on when I posted.
I'm not sure anyone influential reads it but you never know.
I just can't understand the logic of it recording everywhere you go since you bought the unit with no easy way of resetting it! _________________ Satnav:

One theory is that Garmin hoover the files when you connect your GPS and use the data in some way, maybe to influence things like traffic trends etc.
As for whether anyone influential will read it, that depends on the forum. I know for example that the Basecamp developers are active on the Basecamp forums, they've acted/helped with some of my suggestions as well as helping many others. Never seen anyone there from the hardware side though, so your plea may fall on deaf ears |

Thanks
No mention of re-setting the trip log
I note they have found some issue with multiple icons. This must be what some of the error reports here were about. Never had an issue myself.
I'm now running the TomTom 24x24's from here with the red backgrounds. _________________ Satnav:
