edit: Looks like you need either a recent or even latest map to get the discounted price.

If you have an old, unsupported map you need to BUY a new map. There is no upgrade/update to the current map.

The 12 Month Map Update Service is designed to keep a supported map up to date.

Yeah, but how is the buyer supposed to know that?

Especially when all the card says on the front is "Compatible with all TomTom devices", and the product details just say "Avoid the frustration of having out-of-date maps on your sat nav with this TomTom 12 month map update service. It's compatible for use with all TomTom devices"

How much "out of date" is TOO much "out of date"? Evil or Very Mad

Well just checked my One XL
Map 870.3417

TomTom says there have been six updates since mine as is offering the 1yr map update for £40.46 this is with 10% discount for already having the map, what happens if you don't have a map I can't imagine.

I presume if I had a newer map the discount would be more. Like this.

The price of the Map Update Service depends on the age of the map on your navigation device.
The newer your map, the bigger your discount, because the best navigation relies on always driving with the latest map.

Age of your map Map Update Service discount
You have the latest map 50%
3 - 6 months 40%
6 - 9 months 30%
9 - 12 months 20%
12 - 36 months 10%
36 months + 0%

So the Argos deal looks like you have to have the latest map. maybe?

also see here http://www.tomtom.com/page/servicecards click on Learn More, and then please come back and explain it to me.

Whatever the detail, it's safe to say that Argos (or anyone else) should not be selling these cards without a LOT more information about the limited conditions when they can be used.

I always thought that you could only buy the Map Update Service cards at Argos as an add-on to a device purchase.

That would be fine.

You can't and it isn't.

I'll be taking it up with Argos Customer Service on Monday.

How do you renew without going through TTHome, it does not give any other way of doing it ?

Wait for the email from Tomtom informing you that your live services are about to expire, I received mine about a month prior to expiry.

Sorry just realised I left out the following way of doing it.

Go to the Tomtom website and logon.
Go to services then tomtom HD traffic.
Then hit buy live services now.

There will be a discount box to enter the code into.
