Maybe that's why you never drive into lakes, rivers or railway lines. |
I was hoping it was because I had a brain and knew which switches to flick to engage it... |

TomTom phoned me back and advised that the 30% discount in the Sale only applies (applied) if you had to pay the full price for the map update service, ie if your map is a long way out of date.
If you order the map update service and get a discount as your map is up to date, the sale does not apply to you.
The moral of this is don't believe a TomTom email offer.
The solution to buy the map update service when it is not offered is to log out of Home with the device connected. Home will then offer the map update service and logs you in again when you go to checkout. _________________ Drivelux |

You heard it here (well, on the previous page) first. Part of the "up to" is the discount when your map is already up to date. _________________ Dennis

Maybe he no longer needs a map as he was on a railway line which ran into a lake which is near a river. _________________ GO 620, Tomtom Android EU,

Argos currently showing for £24.99:-
TomTom Sat Nav 12 Month Map Update Service.
Excluded from the Argos 30 day money back guarantee. 504/4092
Seems a good deal if you want to update maps as cheaper than buying just one from Tomtom direct. _________________ 920+510+Start20+S7 |

Then that explains why you're getting offered the map update service and Mr T isn't, as he already has a current subscription. _________________ Anita

I notice that the ad says ALL TT devices but one of the two feedbacks says it's not for older models. |

I bought the map update card from Argos but when I enter the activation code I get the following message:
The activation code you entered is valid but the associated product doesn't work with your device type or with the version of the application on it. Please install the latest version of the device application by clicking "Update my device" in the main menu. Then enter your activation code again. As soon as you activate your code, the associated product will be available for download and/or use.
I did update my 940 using TT Home immediately before trying to use the activation code but I'm thinking the error may be because I don't have the most recent map installed - am I right? |

So, to be clear, you have the most up to date version of Home, and you have used that to update your device as much as it wants (firmware on the device). Your device is a 940.
Given the purpose of the card is to update the maps, it would seem daft that you would have to have the latest maps, so it can't be that IMO.
Looking at Amazon's card (2 years) it says they are only good for devices in the first 90 days of purchase. Not sure if that applies here too.
Please keep us informed. |

Found this on Argos Q&A
Hi, thank you for your question.
I have looked into this for you and can confirm the TomTom Sat Nav 12 Month Map Update Service depends on the age of the maps on your navigation device. Please visit the manufacturer’s website where you can put in your device model number and this advice and this information will be provided.
Map Update Service can only be brought for maps that you already won and will usually be offered at a discounted price depending on the age of your map.
Thank you for using Question and Answer.
Not too clear, don't think I'll risk it for my XL-1
edit: Looks like you need either a recent or even latest map to get the discounted price.
