|
|
Hi,
I believe I have followed the instructions as intended for the speed camera database, however I have the message:
Unable to convert C:\Users\HP|Documents|Garmin speed cams\pocketgps_uk_gatso.wav to the proper format.therefore this audio file was not transferred.
I have the same warning for mobile/pmobile/redlight/specs.
Could someone please help with a suggestion. I am not a computer whizz
Thanks!
Edit: this message appears after download via the POI Loader. |

Thank you.
I will try again from scratch later.
I will download database, wav format, unzip, start POI loader, transfer to garmin device (with micro sd card inserted into garmin, and try again.
I believe I also need to uncheck the garmin database POI in the satnav and check Custom POI.
I am assuming I need to download the sox.exe file and transfer that along with the databae during the transfer via POIloader!?
Thanks..... |

As Kremmen shows (in the topic that Oldboy linked) you put sox.exe in the same folder that PoiLoader.exe resides in.
The sox.exe helps PoiLoader to convert the .wav files before transfer to the Garmin device.

Thank you.
I do not have a POILoader file, only a POILoaderforWindows_272 file (it is the one downloaded from the Garmin website)
I have downloaded the sox file, and tried to drag it into above file, but it just keeps opening (running) the POILoaderforWindows_272 program?
Am I doing this right? |

If you're happy to leave it here, this forum section is fine for your query, sir. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

I think that the POILoaderforWindows_272 file is probably the installation file that you originally downloaded. If you have used this to install the PoiLoader program, then this installation file can now be deleted.
If you have installed the program, you will have a PoiLoader icon with which to run the program. R-click on the icon, press Properties, and the Target box will show you where the PoiLoader.exe has been placed.
Put the sox.exe in this same folder as PoiLoader.exe
Hope this helps.

I had heard that the most recent versions of POI Loader and sox.exe may be problematic.
as I had bookmarks for some version versions which are know to work, I added them all to a single post here:
My Sox.exe AND PoiLoader old/new versions links
Hopefully that might help. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Thanks all for your input.
The problem here is that I do not have a POI Folder to put SOX into.
I only have the POILoaderforWindows_272 file, or 261 version, whatever, and when I unzip the SOX file, drag it into the above, it just opens/runs the program?
I have downloaded your older link, but it just installs the garmin POI Installation file?
I know I need a POI folder, but how?
Thank you for your patience............! |

Hi Medrep.
You have to use Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) to do what you have to do. Please don't think that I am being patronising, but do you know how to use Explorer to create folders and move files about? If you are at all unsure, please say so and we can then give you more detailed instructions on how to do it. |

No offence taken!
I know how to move files etc.
I have downloaded speed zoned database with correct WAV voice.
Extracted files, renamed in my documents.
Downloaded Sox and extracted, renamed in my documents.
Launch POILoaderforWindows_272 file, or 261 version, etc
Prompts me to transfer files to Garmin or F:Drive (I have a micro sd inserted)
Tried both transfer to Garmin or F:
Files transferred. (also deleted Garmin cyclops databased to be sure)
Open Garmin via explorer.
Transfer Sox into POI of Garmin
Unplug satnav.
Boot up satnav.
Check Custom POI.
Nothing?
Is this correct?
Thank you! |

When you install POILoader it 'should' go to C:\Program Files\Garmin\POILoader\
The POILoader.exe should be in there.
If not I suggest you reinstall POILoader. _________________ Satnav:

I don't know how to do this for sure, but shouldn't sox.exe go into the Garmin POI folder C:\Program Files\Garmin\POILoader\
on your computer before you do the POI loader bit as it sounds like you are putting it on your device? As I said, I'm not sure about this but perhaps someone who knows what they are talking about could chime in. |

You're right, and I never spotted that possibility on the OP's post. _________________ Satnav:
