|
|
TomTom Home just updated my TT Carminat software and I have lost my Favourites ant Recent Destinations.
For next time, which file do I need to copy and restore to get them back. There is no "Mapconfig" file in the map folder. |

The file you need is "MapSettings.cfg" and it should be in the map folder - Mike |

Hi Mike. MapSettings.cfg was the the name I was trying to think of. This was the file on my TT One, but it doesn't exist on the SD card for the Carminat Live. |

Confirmed indeed. Carminat runs off SD card and the minute you take it out and put it into computer you lose it. This is a meggae pain of such proportions I go apoplectic every time I do it (which is why I don't, except for map updates).
It is really GRRRRRRRRRRR!
PS. It's not just favourites and recent destinations, it's all the other stuff too. POI warnings - including our speed cameras.
And to top it all off, Home and Carminat are not compatible for Operate my Carminat, so the only way to get the settings back as you like them is to go sit out in the vehicle like some weirdo anorak playing with his gadgets in the street! _________________ Dennis

So is the only work-round to keep your favourites as a user-POI category instead? _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Sorry, I was editing my post as you wrote.
Yes the only way is convert favourites to POI. _________________ Dennis

Thanks Guys, How do I convert favourites to POIs? Sorry if this is obvious, but as Dennis pointed out, the only way to "play" with the Carminat is to sit out in the car, and it's minus 2 out there at the moment.
Off topic, I am still reeling from the shock that the update takes away Google Search and replaces it with something completely useless. I have been venting my spleen on this over on TomTom's forums. Looks like this was planned 18 months ago, but not mentioned a month ago when they sold me two subsciptions. |

Re-saving Favourites as POIs....
There's a quick way to do it if you can get at the file (which it seems you can't!), but if you have to do it on the device itself, its just a laborious process of doing it one by one.
Here's how I'd do it on my normal Tomtoms, I'm guessing and hoping it's similar on the Carminat....
First create a new POI category (in the "Manage POIs" preferences menu).
Call it "_Favourites" or whatever you like.
(the "_" at the front just puts it at the top of the alphabetical list).
Then:
Go to the "Browse map" screen
Tap "Find" at the bottom
Select your first Favourite, so it's shown in the middle of the map, with a blue cursor dot on it.
Tap the blue cursor button at the bottom
select "Save as POI"
Choose your "_Favourites" category and save it with whatever name you like.
Then repeat for every Favourite you had....
UPDATE:
I've just looked at the Carminat manual and the idea is the same but the steps are a BIT different.
Most of the details you need are on page 31 of the downloadable manual here:

Google Search vs. TT Local Search.
Yeah we're all up in arms about it. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Thanks Andy_P.
When the word "convert" was used, I wasn't sure if it needed doing on the computer. |

For information, Page 3 of THIS THREAD seems to indicate that updates for Carminat Live models is done over the air. It's the only place I've seen this, so I can't confirm it (mine isn't the Live model). _________________ Dennis
