|
|
WARNING DO NOT UPGRADE TO THIS VERSION
This version of the app has a bug in the settings for selecting show map and selecting none. If you select this then the app will stop responding. To clear this you need to force close the app, then enter the Android Settings -> Apps -> CamerAlert then clear settings. Do not select Show Map none when reconfiguring.
The 1.3.6.601 app can be downloaded from http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/Android/CamerAlert.Android.601.apk
CamerAlert for Android V1.3.10.747 has just been released to Google Play. This is a major release with a large number of issues resolved and some exciting new functionality.
In particular we have added a new single button press to allow you to confirm if a mobile camera is actually active at a site. When approaching a known mobile site two buttons will appear on the display. The first is a tick button which when pressed will confirm that the camera van is there and active. The second a cross to indicate that the camera van is not currently at that location. Tapping the cross is not a request to remove the camera, just an indication that the van is not there.
Please only tap the tick button if the camera van is actually there when you pass. This way we get reliable data of where the active camera vans are.
Click here for the download page on the Google Play store.
A full list of changes follows:
New Features
- Added buttons to quickly mark a mobile camera as active or inactive. Confirms a mobile as being active or inactive with a single button press. Should only use the tick if the camera van is present, the cross does not remove the camera, just marks it as not there when you passed it.
- Added warning on resume if GPS has been disabled while the app was in the background.
- Added button on link account page so users can directly email support when they get a "too many devices linked" message
- Made view more ahead mandatory, removed setting from preferences
- Use reflection for Bluetooth SCO
Issues Resolved
- Relaxed overly aggressive submission check. If there is no data connection during a submission attempt, the next attempt would only be made at the next submission.
- Added reachability check for submissions/mobile confirmations to prevent crashes when no SIM card is present
- Fixed crash on submission view.
- Fixed an issue where the database download would not work when the developer option "Don't keep activities" was checked.
- Fixed sporadic bug seen during database download.
- Bug fix for notification manager
- Bug fix for attempted GPS start when GPS is actually disabled by user
- Adjusted GPS checking logic to refresh status whenever main window becomes active
- If "Silence" is selected as a sound, nothing will be played in the audio queue.
- Fixed bug that occasionally would complain about killing a non-existing location service.
- Inclusion of BROADCAST_STICKY permission due to ICS bug with startBluetoothSCO()
- Better handling of GPS service stoppage to prevent service restart
- Fixed welcome screen tip. Auto expiring view after 20 seconds. If user taps on tip, that tip will not be shown again.
- Fixes for Bluetooth SCO headset routing. _________________ Mike Barrett

Exactly what did you do to reproduce it?
We have had a few users have issues with the app 'crashing' but we are getting no useful information to assist us in determining what is the cause.
If you can let us know exactly what you do to reproduce it and send us any crash logs you have then it will help us immensely. Not a single one of our test team has experienced this in the regression testing we have done over the last few weeks. _________________ Mike Barrett |

My new device has no H/W Menu button. How do I now get at Settings etc?
Ignore that. Found it hidden away in the bottom right |

Have done all you ask in a support request (found the logs, and stated all steps to reproduce the crash reliably - done it two or three times) |

It looks like the issue is when you set show map to none. If it is left as always or near cam it works correctly. We are trying to find out what has changed to break this right now and will issue a patch as soon as we have fixed and tested it.
In the mean time the previous version can be found here http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/Android/CamerAlert.Android.601.apk
if you do not have a backup copy. _________________ Mike Barrett |

If I side load it, should a new version still be spotted when it appears on the Play Store? |

I am not certain. It should do it recognises mine as being the latest version, but we are talking Google here so any thing could happen. _________________ Mike Barrett |

Ah yes - Play Store is offering to update it. Think I'll give that a miss for now... |

Glad I managed to read this just in time. Just about to update the CA database and check for general App updates as well, I would have just gone and updated CA as well.
Methinks I'll leave it for another day. _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |

Just a thought, that new button to report a 'seen again' mobile, does it show only when a map is running.
I always have CA set to run in the background with no map. Use Navigon maps and directions.
I get the camera pop up warning but then it goes. I don't get any other alert until the 'all clear'.
Under the new system would the report again button remain on screen on top of Navigon maps?
If not, could that cause the crash problem? _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |

OK so my SGS2 auto updated. Error. So the solution appears to be to download the old version. For dummies like me could we have a step by step instruction. What exactly am I supposed to do with CameraAlertAndroid601.apk?

Copy the file to your phone (or SD card) and then locate it in a file browser app. Tap the apk and it will ask you to install it. If you get an error saying it's not allowed then you may need to select an option via: settings / applications and then tick the box that says to allow installation from 'Unknown Sources' and then try again.

That's a bit harsh, no? How many other companies would offer the previous version if a new version was seen to have bugs? Most just say to wait patiently while they fix it and then leave you hanging for a week...
