Listen, Tom Tom, I do NOT like being told that unless I allow data to be collected from me, I will not be able to use the live services I paid for

Erm.. it's kind of essential.

They can't tell you what the weather is like near you unless you transmit your location BACK to them. Same for Google or TT Local Search there's no way their servers know where you are unless you share that information.

Similarly with Traffic. It's going to show you traffic within a certain radius of YOU.

They have always collected that information, the LIVE Services couldn't work without it. The only change is that an EU ruling said they have to expressly ask your permission rather than do it in the small print.

Having now tried out that TT plan B local search it really isn't too bad.

Not as good as the Google one was but I can find better things to moan about.

Looks like some are switching the other way

The CoPilot Live GPS navigation app has been recently updated with a whole bunch of new features. High on the list is the replacement of Bing with Google search

Edited to add this link. This may only be for the Android (Google related?) version.

Where did I hear that Apple have adopted TomTom mapping? Some dream or what? Down at the Derby and Joan club? That TT have street views from their mapping vehicles but don't use it for "streetview"? That TT have POIs which Apple use?

Would explain a lot. Rolling Eyes

Is the search being updated? Remember I said about searching outside TESCO and it wasn't there!! Tried again yesterday and it had TESCO 500 yards!!!

Yes they are still tweaking it a lot.

It still can't find my local Co-Op though.

I am in shock! Not connected to the computer in ages and saw the new software. Home downloaded it along with the new Western Europe map and it all installed and rebooted and WORKED! No boot loop nonsense!

Anyway I see a "bug" in the software that I haven't had before. The device is now auto shutting down even when plugged in to the computer cradle. The "Switch off when external power is lost" is unticked but it still has power from the PC? Is this a new feature when not moving? It is a backwards move for me as I do part time deliveries so if out the van I don't want the Sat Nav powering down.

Is this new to this version of software? I can't find out how to disable it?

You can't. This 'improvement' in Nav2 devices is such that the device powers down after just a couple of minutes of immobility. It used to be 30 minutes, I think.

So this is new to 9.465? The previous version software never used to do this?

I think the shutdown when connected to the PC in the cradle has always been there if the device is in navigation mode, ie after asking if you want to connect to the PC then saying No.

If the cradle is connected to a USB power plug (not a PC or Hub) this does not happen.

This is how my 940 behaves.

Ah yes! I thought my device had been "enhanced". It is indeed only happening when docked. Normal service has resumed when removed from the PC dock!

Few!
