In case any of you are thinking that this morning you are having the usual Live Services connection problem, you are NOT.
Here's a quote from a USA thread a few minutes ago... Ditte wrote: | 10 minutes ago
Hi all,
In addition to the response to slvrmdl, we're currently experiencing a global outage on out LIVE services due to an issue with a 3rd party provider.
We're sorry for the inconvenience this is causing you.
All the best,
Ditte |
I wonder, does this mean they have the same electricity supplier all over the world and they've forgotten (or can't afford) to put a shilling in the meter? _________________ Dennis

I've just checked my 1005 at 10.15 am BST today and it's working fine. Live services shows traffic issues between Scottish border and Sheffield, which is my normal coverage.

Yes, mine has come back to life now. I see London is clear of traffic. _________________ Dennis

Is it OK for you now, Dennis? Just checked at around 10:50 and I've got lots of traffic incidents showing in London on two different NAV 2 units. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Andy, I was doing tongue in cheek. London is ALWAYS clear of traffic when I get connected. Right now I can see markers at Bracknell and Guildford, but Londoners are the luckiest people on earth without a single problem on or inside the M25! Can you see the traffic at Bristol, M4/M5? _________________ Dennis

Ah, the old "horizon" issue.
Nope, furthest West I see is just past Swindon. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Unfortunately I noticed the problem. Live Services finally sprang back into life at around 10:15, AFTER I had been sitting in a jam on the M1 (at Newport Pagnall) for almost an hour - and told me I still had a further 25 minutes to wait! _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

Mine has been off since last Thursday, check out the TomTom forums the system is in meltdown. Customer support has, to be polite, been absolutely shocking!
I'm pretty certain this is now my last TomTom. |

It is still down for lots of people in the UK.
There is a good chance TomTom are going to be discussed on Watchdog in half an hour. |

Yes, Watchdog report has just been on, thanks for the heads up.
It was VERY brief, but quite damning. Roughly "If you want to avoid traffic jams, don't rely on TomTom - their HD Traffic service has been down for two weeks." _________________ Dennis

Saw it too, but don't know what the fuss is about. Mine has been working fine and still is - just checking again. Yep working OK. No reported hold-ups into East London. I see that Stratford is still in the 'City of London', though. _________________ Gee-Pee

It might be for you but not for everyone, check out the 30 page thread on TomTom's discussion board! |

Hmm. The thirty page thread was started (and mostly continued) by US contributors. I hesitate to suggest that 4,000+ miles distance might give different results?
I'd like to think the BBC might have read that thread and the ones about UK range, but they have created a doubt in my mind about their standards of investigation if that statement came out of them.
I KNOW there have been outages, but not for a fortnighht - mine has been dropping and picking up again quite regularly recently, but "down for two weeks" is pretty clear, so I should not have been getting anything. _________________ Dennis
