Magellan continue to be a major player in the North American GPS device market. They have been cranking out new Roadmate products on a regular basis.

Meanwhile we have been busy reviewing the RoadMate 5230T-LM, basically the 5245T-LM minus the portrait mode. T stands for Traffic, and LM for - hmm. Maybe it means Landmark Guidance - the reason we were interested in reviewing the device in the first place.

Apart from NNG (formerly known as Nav N Go) no other Personal Navigation Device (PND) vendor has yet offered this very functionality - the ability to include Points of Interest along the route in the navigation instructions, such as "after the post office turn left".

Unless the 5230 is completely different than the 5220, it looks like you've overlooked one of the best features of Magellan vs Garmin and the others, which is that you can see a group of POIs on a map, all at the same time, and in most cases with the corporate logo instead of a generic subcategory icon.

The little 'map' button shows up at the bottom whenever there is a list of places (as is the case after the 'Select Category' screens, such as this one: http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/reviews/Magellan5230T/0625124938.jpg ) and after pressing this button, you can see all of the places in the list, all at once (usually indicated via the corporate logo), and use the bar at the bottom (with arrows) to jump from one to the next on the map, seeing the address info for each POI, one at a time.

In fact my Mio Sprit 689 Deluxe also has this feature. I have a garage near my home and if I have the option ticked it will tell me "In 500 yards at the esso service station turn left dyke road."

Yes, Magellan and Mio are both brands of the Mitac company. It is safe to assume that these brands share some of the engine features, and possibly some of the user interface.
