It's been a very long time coming but the wait is finally over. TomTom for Android has launched and is now available in the Google Play app store.

TomTom for Android has similar features to its iOS counterpart but the user interface has been re-jigged with a different map view info pane layout. 2D/3D map views, voice guidance, multi-stop and eco routes are all present,

HD traffic is available as an extra cost option and lifetime map updates are included in the app purchase price.

Western Europe comes in at £39.99, a £10 saving over its iOS equivalent but you'll need a hefty 2.7GB of free space before you can install it.

Unfortunately, it isn't compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S111, probably the best selling Android phone on the market - what a massive c0ck-up by TomTom

Neither is it compatible with HTC One S and X amongst others.

Please let this be a technical issue with Google Play and not some mad limited release!

Well it is not available on my HTC Sensation running Android 2.3. And neither is it available on my Asus pad running Android 4.1. So just what is it compatible with, given that it appears to not be the most popular or the latest version of Android? And all this despite the link saying that it is compatible with Android 2.2 and up.

Yet another TT problem? A saying about breweries comes immediately to mind.

If TomTom doesn't make this relaease for my HTC One S then, after many loyal years, I am switching to Sygic on Android.

The Sygic app uses Tomtom's maps and more importantly, has just implemented HD Traffic.

So it may well be bye bye Tomtom, you need a massive reality check.

Make sure you test Sygic out thoroughly! I for one will be switching back from Sygic to TomTom because I'm fed up with Sygic's idiosyncratic routing algorithms trying to take me down a narrow country lane when there's a perfectly good dual carriageway next door (North Wales), or through a narrow 20mph zone village centre with speed humps when the bypass is free-flowing (Hampshire), or the wrong way up several one-way streets (Birmingham).

Sygic is very pretty but I can't remember using it for a journey when it hasn't screwed up somewhere on the way.

Does not support Galaxy Note. It looks like only supports 1 or 2 phones. Well done Tomtom.

Modaco is reporting that is only supports phones with resolutions up to 854x480. If that is true then it would explain why it isn't compatible with lots of the newer phones.

By the looks of it, if you have a high end phone released in the last 12 months you're stuffed, ironically this is the very market I would've expected TomTom to be targeting Shocked

No, it also officially supports 800x480. See here:

Not compatable with Samsung Galaxy Nexus, any chance of someone contacting Tomtom and finding out their plans for this product, it's obvious there is a market for it.

Which falls under the 'up to 854 x 480'?
