As you may be aware, TomTom has offered 'M' models (lifetime maps) in North America. The price difference they show for a non-lifetime and a lifetime map model is certainly less than the value they have placed on the feature in the UK.
For example, you'll notice it is just a difference of $50 Cdn for the following models:

I knew that Tomtom did offer lifetime maps in other market areas, but hadn't realised the price difference between models was as small as that. I would have expected a much bigger gap.
Currently the price for a single purchase of a UK & Rep of Ireland map is (I think) about £39. I can't recall what I last paid for a years updates for the UK&RoI, but believe it was around the £32-£35 price range. No doubt someone can refresh my memory...
So to my mind the current 'Free' offer for the lifetime maps is well worth considering.
I hope there isn't an unforeseen catch with the offer |

I paid £22 for a year of UK/RoI map updates. So it is a bargain if you can keep the device going for four years or more. But isn't the offer for European mapping devices, which would make it more economical? _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

The offer does include models with European mapping, and that Amazon link does show the Go Live 1005 with World maps. As long as there isn't some tricky exclusion in the fine print that would presumably make it a very good deal.
I'd quoted the UK&RoI map prices as that is what I'm familiar with. If the years updates can be bought for as little as £22 then it's still a pretty good 'Free' offer, but not as good as I first thought.
Anyone any idea of how much a years updates of Europe or World maps would currently cost at Tomtom's UK pricing? |

Oldboy...
Thanks for that update. I knew someone would be along shortly with the right information.
EDIT... I've now had an e-mail from Halfords detailing the same offer from Tomtom. |

I should add that, in North America, the M (lifetime maps) feature for models with both North American and European maps do NOT include the lifetime updates for the European maps, just the NA ones.
So I would suggest that those considering the 1005 World model make **sure** the lifetime updates include BOTH the European and NA maps. _________________ David |

The Terms and Conditions are now available, but don't seem to say whether or not, if you go for the "World" model, you'll get "World" lifetime map updates.
Anybody asked TT directly? _________________ Jock

Still a good offer though for the 1005 World users for me who are more likely to use UK and Europe maps only. _________________ TT GO 1005 |
