No, they are even worse than TomToms.

For info, the Apple Maps POIs (in the UK at least) are from Yelp. Checking Yelp my local POIs are correct BUT in Apple Maps they are in completely the wrong area of town - BUT they have the correct street name (there are lots of High Street's" in Bradford)

So there is clear evidence that Apple have been messing about with both TomTom's map data as well as Yelp's POI data. When you view the source data directly (eg in TomTom app or Yelp app) then you can see that they have it correct. It only changes in the Maps app therefore Apple have done something with it - either intentionally or not.

[quote="peterc10"]Facetime over 3G will be useful for her. Have you tried it yet? Does it suffer with poor quality like Skype? When you say eats up data any idea how much. My wife gets 500Mb per month for a fiver (giffgaff), and she never uses much of it.{/quote]
Sorry I've not tried it. To be honest I rarely use Facetime anyway... Plus I don't tend to monitor my mobile data usage that much as I have all you can eat with Three. Just checked and I've used 1GB of data since Friday afternoon Very Happy

Yep - the web version still works. I would imagine that The Google are busy working away on an actual maps app, like they have with YouTube.

Sorry, I can't get StreetView using Google Maps (or Google Earth) on Safari on my iPad 3 - don't know why, but you get the maps but no StreetView. I find that a deal breaker. There is an App to give streetview on iPad/iPhone, but I've been trying it and find it very poor - gives a small window on iPad which I can't zoom and on iPhone 4S it won't zoom and is very unstable and slow whilst mobile on 3G. I feel cheated even though it cost only 69 pence - not the money, just that it certainly doesn't do the job I need from StreetView (too small and inflexible to be useful).

I'm assuming you are talking about the Live Street View app. This is the only one I could find as well. At least the only one that worked well enough. I think it will have to do until google get something out there!

Yes, that's the one and this is the best I get on my iPad, far too small to be of any use (Oxford Street, Bristol, by the way). It comes fullscreen on iPhone, but without zoom it's not very good there either.

I agree, but it is the best I can find. Lets hope that google are close to release date.

You'll need to hope a bit harder, Google's Eric Schmidt has stated "We have not done anything yet".

Boo. And I was really hoping that I wouldn't have to jailbreak iOS 6. Bring on Cydia!

Mind you I suspect that the App store trolls are scrabbling to bring something out that might work in the mean time, street view based or whatever.

I've just found another one - WhatsGoLa in the App Store. There's a free and paid version. Just played with the free version on iPhone and somehow managed a very good StreetView. Just now the iPad is refusing to connect to App Store so I haven't yet seen it on iPad.

Whatsgola is iPhone only app so it will only show up in x2 zoom mode on the pad.

So whilst iOS6 won't let me get to App Store on iPad, I synced WhatsGoLa Free from iPhone and here's how it looks on iPad. In my "Never RTFM" mode, it was a struggle to discover how to get into Streetview, but I managed it. The advantage with this one is that you can double the size which is almost fullscreen (see arrow and circle). The quality is definitely not as the proper StreetView, but I can probably live with this one until a decent one comes along. Notice the drag zoom button at bottom.

Well, that was quick - Live Street View has just issued an update which gives fullscreen on my iPad.

Happy bunny now. Bouncing

Now, there's a strange coincidence then....

I just used TomTom's POIs to find a Pub/Hotel near me, located in The Avenue, West Ealing.

It didn't have it in their Hotels section, but it *did* have it under "Restaurants". Unfortunately it had it located in The Avenue, Chiswick, about 4 miles away!

So I looked for other POIs nearby and there were two more restaurants all placed on the wrong "The Avenue".
Right Street, wrong town!
