|
|
Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone knows of a database or satnav devices that can sort out postcode locations?. A friend of mine runs his own courier company and was hoping to find a device or database that he can submit say 20-30 postcodes and the device/database will sort out the best routes and destinations from his current location?
Not sure if this is possible ? but any help in this area would be welcomed! _________________ TT Go 720 v8.204

I do something very similar, but not using Postcodes. Postcodes by themselves are know to very inaccurate at times, especially in the country areas.
Even with that limitation, it is possible to input a group of Postcodes into AutoRoute. AR can then work out the best route to take and saves this information within the saved .axe file.
Another program, ITNConverter, can read the .axe File and extract the Routing information, and convert it to different formats for use in a variety of satnavs.
It sounds long winded, but it takes longer to describe, than to do. _________________ Richard

Oldboy,
I have downloaded the free ITN converter and on first impressions this little application looks fantastic! The optimise itinerary function is exactly the kind of thing we are looking for.
We have tested the database and have set up some fake routes. The database mapping looks great and works well on my TomTom 720.
Thanks for sharing this it will help us to sort out and make parcel delivery for his courier company so much easier.
It's a real shame many Satnav's have itinerary function but can not optimise the itinerary for routing.
Again thanks for your kind reply Oldboy you have made our working lifes so much easier much appreciated. _________________ TT Go 720 v8.204

As you've had a positive outcome, and it might be just the thing that other people want, I've taken the liberty of tweeking your topic title a bit, to make it a bit more descriptive when searching.
hope that's OK. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Damn! I'm usually SO careful about the spelling of "itineraries".
I blame this lousy keyboard.
