A few impressions of my tomtom urban rider that I have just purchased.
I have not had chance to test it on the bike yet,so this is not a comprehensive report, yet.
I am comparing this to my 530 unit:-
Positives
1/Waterproof and looks sturdy.
2/Winding road route option looks fun,if it works
Negatives
1/ No audio output jack
2/No sd slot
3/No mp3 player
4/ I don't appear to be able to view the route in detail as on the 530,which is a serious omission in my opinion.
5/ Downloaded the latest map yesterday, the fact that all the map will not fit on has been covered in depth before, but I am happy that the zone I have chosen will be sufficient for all my needs.

The big problem with the rider urban/pro is the lack of capacity 2GB is having a laugh. Touring Europe is not possible without changing maps and most motorcyclist will not be taking a net book or lap top with them.
Winding roads is not that good I find it better to plan out the route using tyre to create an ITN file
I also think Tomtom considering the premium price they should have provided a power dock with each unit. I know it is more robust and waterproof but really does is cost £150.00 more to do this over the basic tomtom start? |

Hi dickins, I have an older version Rider2 with an earlier software but
Quote: | 1/ No audio output jack | Although I have a Scala Intercom I also have a SonyEricsson HBH-DS200 bluetooth thingy (about £20-30) which can pair to the TT for Navigation/Directions.
Quote: | 4/ I don't appear to be able to view the route in detail as on the 530,which is a serious omission in my opinion. | If true then that is a serious omission. If I tap the "Satellite Signal Strength Bars" in the bottom right of the screen, then "Details" & finally "Show Route Summary" I get an overview. I knew that the Urban Rider had the simplified menu, but that's too much. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599
