Been using a 720 up till now, but now looking for a new one around the £100-£140 mark and wondered if anyone had any suggestions.
I have been updating speed cameras from pgpsw with spoken warnings rather than bleeps etc and want to keep this feature, dont want tomtom speed cams, also want lane guidance and spoken street names, not bothered about bluetooth or mp3 capabilities and only need uk maps, any help would be appreciated |

TomTom Outlet Store has the GO550 Live Refurbished (with 12 months free Live Services) for £120 and won't trouble you with the "new as seen on TV MyTomTom" instead of Home - it sticks in the throat to say Home is better than anything, but at least it's better than MyTomTom!!! I've just bought another GO550 Live Refurbished and would NOT have considered any of the more recent models, such as the Live 1000.
The only reservation with the Refurb 550 is it won't have the latest map, so a new map will cost you another £40 or so. But it'll be more like what you are used to with the 720. _________________ Dennis

Why do you want to ditch the 720? If it's still working and you don't need any of the "features" of the newer devices (at the expense of some of the features you're used to) I'd keep it - in fact I have! I haven't seen anything that makes me want to change my 5-year-old 720. _________________ Anita

Thanks for your input guys, im getting rid of my 720 as i updated maps recently and had nothing but trouble. Every journey i have made since then, its taken me the wrong way or somewhere different. I use western map on sd card and now it wont let me swap maps unless i remove the sd card first to use uk maps, then when i put sd card back in i have to reset all cam warnings and dont have kate voice on there which is main one i use. Map version im using is 9.4 |

The version "9.4" is the NavCore version (I assume) - map versions are 890, 895 etc.
The only reason I changed from my 520 was to get the live services and I replaced it with a 540, deliberately avoiding the 550 and later.
If you believe that the 720 is beyond repair (you have given up) then I would agree with earlier posts the the refurbs or special offers of the 750 or Start or similar is the way to go - avoiding the more recent 10xx series. _________________ TomTom Go 540 - V9.058, Map GB & Ireland 860.3101

Thanks DennisN for info about Refurb Go550 at TomTom Outlet Store and gazza70 for the discount code. Just bought one using the code for £71.99. My wife and I already use one I bought from Argos for £124.95 in Feb 2011 and we are both very happy with it. _________________ Brian

GRRRR! That's nearly 50 quid less than I paid for mine, certainly worth the price of the latest map. Double GRRRR!! _________________ Dennis

no probs bkilham glad someone made use of the code.
i dont know if your local halfords near you has any left , i managed to bag a 2 year mapdate service card for £29.90 last week , halfords told me that they won't work on the tomtom950, so i called tomtom who said that halfords was talking rubbish, i activated mine with no problems
these can only be used on newly-bought devices.
if your local halfords has one then i would call tomtom and ask them will it work on a refurb unit

I just had a look at Amazon to compare prices and they are £62.20 there
They say that "This card is only available for devices activated less than 90 days ago".
Nearest Halfords with stock is Pontefract which is not local so not an issue.
Need a TT special offer by end of year! _________________ TomTom Go 540 - V9.058, Map GB & Ireland 860.3101

Just had a look on the TT website and it thought I was located in USA (!) and offered me lifetime map updates for $99.95!
This is for USA, Canada and Mexico only. Then find out that this is offered bundled with the device for certain models. Specifically excludes European maps
UK price for one years update service for UK and Ireland maps is "only" £74.95!!!!!!!!

I am looking ahead to purchase a tomtom 550 live refurbished from the tomtom store as a backup for my 720.
When do the live services start i.e. if I just keep the refurbished one in its box untill required and then activate it at a later date will the live services then be activated for 12 months.
Any reply will be greatly appreciated.
