You'll have to buy from TomTom direct, I suspect. Maps are usually locked to the device they are bought for.

If you are looking at a trip to NZ there is a good and free mapping available for Garmins. It will run on just about any model, does routing and POIs and is updated on a weekly basis

As NZ is a smallish country even something as cheap (eBay?) and simple as a Quest has enough memory to work fine (and will give a couple of day's use on a single charge)

Thanks, but 've taken up TomTom's 30% off offer and bought the NZ mapping.

Don't know if you have been to NZ before but after driving round for 8 weeks in 2 holidays I can tell you you don't get anywhere very quickly. Its only a small country but the roads are very zig-zaggy and you can be driving along a perfectly good tarmac road which suddenly turns to gravel before going back to tarmac 1/2 mile later. But have fun it's a lovely country. If you want any advice/ideas feel free to pm me.

Thanks for the warning and offer! We've not been before and are really looking forward to the trip.

The first bit of advice from my wife is do the north island first if you can. If you do the south island first you may be disappointed by the north.

That's the plan. Auckland to Christchurch by a fairly circuitous route.

Are you in a car or camper?

Car.

I couldn't face dragging a camper around for so many miles. Flexibility on where and when to stay, yes, but we prefer to stay in-town overnight rather than out-of-town and have to drive in for meals. I cook all year, so not on holiday.

Hotels are all booked so just waiting to get going next January when we fly out via Kuala Lumpur. Bangkok on the way back is something else to look forward to.

Looks interesting, but we're doing the eastern side of North Island: Auckland - Paihia (Bay of Islands) - Whangamata - Rotorua - Taupo - Napier - Wellington.

Would recommend Russell, very nice little town a short drive and ferry from Paihia , also Dolphin watching cruise from Paihia. East coast is the best way to go IMHO we drove up the west coast from Wellington and we could have been at home in Kent apart from the volcano near New Plymouth Very Happy

Are you planning to go down to Milford Sound?

Noted. The current fixed stops and outline 'attractions' are:

Auckland + Sky Tower
Paihia + Hole in the Rock + Haruru Falls & Mangroves
Whangamata
Rotorua + Hell’s Gate + Pohutu Geyser + Waimangu Valley thermal area
Napier + Cable car, Lambton Quay – Kelburn + Marine Drive Tour
Wellington
Nelson + Abel Tasman National Park
Punakaiki + Pancake Rocks & Blowholes
Franz Josef
Queenstown + Skyline Gondola + Skippers Canyon Jet
Te Anau + Milford Sound + Doubtful Sound (Not sure if DS would be worth the trip)
Dunedin + Otago + Oamaru
Christchurch
