|
|
I have a 2009 Renault Scenic fritted with a TomTom Carminat (built in Sat Nav). It also has the PGPSW Camera database. From time to time I lose the 'voice' - even though the 'voice' is enabled. I have tried disabling the 'voice' and enabling the 'voice' to no efffect. This problem has started this year. Just switching off the engine & restarting does not help. However If I switch off for a few minutes - say to get fuel, on restarting, I find the 'voice' has come back! Does anybody have any ideas please? |

Do you mean the navigation voice ("in 100yds, turn left" etc.) or the voice warnings for the PGPSW cameras? ("Warning Gatso ahead..." or similar). _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

I lost my computer voice for navigation when I got a new map. It took me a VERY long time (two days!!) to twig I had to "Change voice" and go LEFT instead of right arrow to find them again (not helped by not being able to "Operate my Carminat" on the computer). _________________ Dennis

The loss of voice is on both - navigation and PGPSW camera warnings.
Don't know if it is significant, but on 2 occasions the problem occured when I had put in a route the night before the planned journey. |

As the navigation voice and any speed camera warnings are done in completely separate ways, isn't that beginning to sound like an overall volume issue rather than a "voice" issue? _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

I'm guessing you've had the car long enough to know the steering wheel stalk controls volumes separately? - satnav volume altered whilst the satnav voice is speaking and radio/etc volume whilst that is playing. By default, the volume always returns to a set level (not deafening, not silent) with switch off of your ignition. With mine (with my hearing), I always find that both volumes are inaudible when I startup. I have to adjust (increase) the volume separately when each is speaking - I have to do this after every time I turn off the ignition. _________________ Dennis

Well perhaps it is a volume issue, but I don't see how it can be, when I have not altered the volume control, prior to switching off. Unless you are suggesting it is a problem with the car's software/hardware. Certainly I plan to go to the Dealer, if no other solution is suggested on this forum. |

The volumes return to default every time you switch off the ignition, they do NOT remain at the level you have been using on your journey. It is supposed to be a safety feature to avoid you getting a blast of sound when you next start up. For me, the default volume levels are so low that I usually can't hear a thing from them, just perhaps a slight hiss of white noise.
You can't do any harm by trying the volume control on the stalk, can you? And remember, you can only change the satnav volume whilst it is speaking, so you will need to be on a planned route. _________________ Dennis

It cuts out the radio. Now ask how I know the radio is cut out if I can't hear it.
However, seriously, I always have a route set, so I know it's going to tell me to turn left or right in 50 yards. I always also turn up the radio from inaudible default 15 to some number like 24. When the radio cuts out, I know the satnav is speaking and I turn it up from default 15 to 20.
I realise this is all very technical, but I'm sorry, I just don't know how to put it in simple terms. _________________ Dennis

Yes I am aware that on switch off the volume reduces to a default volume. Although my hearing is not what it was, I can hear speech on the radio, & voice of SatNav and PGPSW Camera database at the default volume on start uup. I turn up the volume once underway.
Yes, thanks I will try the volume control, although I find it very hard to judge, if the volume is too low, when SatNav/PFPSW is 'tallking'. I know when the display shows Interrupt N/A 'she' is speaking. But keeping an eye on the display at the same time as he road ....... Not sure but at the time I lost the volume there was nothing on the display. Although when I started up again, I could hear the voices ( hope I am not going mad hearing voices!) without adjusting the volume.
Anyway, many thanks Andy & Dennis, for your suggestions. |

I've had a similar problem, but when I loose the Carminat voices I also loose the radio/cd volume as well (and no it's not on mute or anything daft, you can alter the volume from the steering controls and see it alter on the display but doesn't make any difference) - really annoying if you are in the middle of a motorway journey between service stations because as with John's issue, it can only be cured after a few minutes 'rest'. _________________ TT 825 (The companies)

Uhmm. There seem to be some variations on the problem. I have not had the problem (yet) of losing sound of the radio. Nor have I had the problem of the wife opening the door at a critical moment. I often put in routes when the engine is off & the redio switches off during programming, but I just turn the radio on again & it takes me back to where I was.
When I lose the SatNav & camera voices, the radio does not mute, so I can't tell when to increase volume of SatNav/camera. |
