UPDATE: April 2024
This process also works on the newer COMAND models as well as MBUX. The process is essentially the same but newer COMAND systems need a USB stick and MBUX will need a USB stick with USB-C connection. We recommend this: https://amzn.to/3J5pdVy which has USB-B at one and and USB-C at the other.

In the instructions below simply replace 'SD Card' with 'USB Stick'

MBUX Versions:
The warning for speed cameras (POI) is only available to those who have the first MBUX version FUP1 or the latest FUP3. The FUP2 version does not allow audible warnings. The system can be upgraded to FUP3 at your local garage.

If your system does not have a version then it may be FUP0 which is not compatible (as far as we are aware).

==========

OK,

"Mercedes Comand" now added to the download options. Can you give it a test for me please?

Instructions here:

POCKET GPS WORLD SPEED CAMERAS FOR MERCEDES COMAND NTG4.5
What do you need?
a. A PC or laptop running either:
Windows XP Service Pack 3 or
Windows Vista or
Windows 7
All of them should have the required windows applications loaded to run vbs files.
b. An SD card (suggest 8 Mb Grade 10).

Procedure:
1. On the SD card, create a folder called “PersonalPOI” .
2. Log on to Pocket GPS World.
3. Go to speed camera download.
4. Select "Mercedes Comand".
5. Check “Include pMobile Files”.
6. Select “UK-single file with all cameras”.
7. Download the compressed file to the SD Card PersonalPOI folder.
8. Unpack the files.
[9-17 removed - related to vbs files]
18. Remove the SD card from the PC or Laptop.
19. Insert the SD card into the slot in the Mercedes NTG4.5 / MBUX console.
20. Switch on the car.
21. Press the NAVI function button.
22. Select Navi in the main function bar. Press the Comand Controller to confirm.
23. Select PersonalPOIs and press the Comand Controller to confirm.
24. A notice “Importing Data etc” will appear. Press the Command Controller. Repeat Para 23 & 24 until you can select “Display PersonalPOIs”. This can take 3 or 4 minutes.
25. You should see 3 new Categories:
a. Pocket GPS UK FIXED Cameras.
b. Pocket GPS UK MOBILE Cameras.
c. Pocket GPS UK pMOBILE Cameras.
26. Select each in turn and press the Comand Controller to switch on the icon display for each one.
27. Call up the PersonalPOI menu again.
28. Select “Visual warning for PersonalPOIs” and press the Comand Controller to confirm.
29. The menu displays the available categories.
30. Select each category in turn and press the Comand controller to confirm each one.
31. MB UK has stated that there is no audible warning option on UK versions of NTG4.5
32. Check that the icons for the cameras appear on the map (you have to zoom the map to see them):
a. Fixed camera icon is a camera.
b. The pMobile & Mobile camera icon is a camera on a tripod.
33. The camera databases remain loaded as long as the SD card is left in the console. If you remove the SD card for any reason you will have to go through the in-car procedure again.
34. That’s it - enjoy.

That works a treat from what I can see. It has all the local cameras so I suspect all of them we there.

Just need to find out why Mercedes UK won't let us have audible warnings.

Thanks for the conversion MaFt.

Brilliant, thanks. Got it working this morning.

One small cheeky request, is there any chance of installing POIs by speed camera/speed so if a POI flashes up on screen it comes up with a image of "30" for example to indicate maximum speed?

I like that feature on the tomtom I downloaded before getting the merc.

Like everyone else I have got this working, thanks for all the work in the background.

One question though relates to sounds, will it be possible to have an audible warning? Without it, I feel this is not really safe to use.

You would have to look at the comand screen all the time to be aware of the upcoming cameras.

Any thoughts on this?

see also my comment (nickname VW-Mercedes) on
http://www.motor-talk.de/forum/blitzer-im-command-online-t3419186.html?page=5

on the sound that can be activated:

Meanwhile I've tested some extra additions to have more audible warnings for 1 camera: now you only hear once a gong. I've tried to add 2 records of activity behind each other (some brackets below where left out due to posting problems)

gpxd:Activity Active="true" Level="warning" Unit="second" Value="40"gpxd:Activity gpxd:Activity Active="true" Level="warning" Unit="second" Value="30" gpxd:Activity

to have a gong at 40 seconds and another at 30 seconds, but it doesn't work, it only sounds the gong at 40 seconds.
Any idea how we can mutiply the gongs for each POI, just like the Garmin POI warnings?

duplicating the attributes will make the xml invalid.

probably the only way to get an earlier warning would be to duplicate each and every camera entry. this would double the file size though and may cause issues with having 2 cameras at each place.

HI,

I have a 2012 C180 with comand, have the same issues as most in this tread.

I have all our speed camera's here in South Africa but all in the Garmin POI format.

Is it possible to export garmin GPX Poi's to Mercedes Comand format (daimler gpx)

I tried the Mapsource "save as" GPX option, Comand won't read format...

Have you tried using the 'Mercedes Comand' download from the download page?

MaFt is referring to downloading the PGPSW database which is already in the right format. Map source won't export in the right format.

Do you have a PGPSW subscription?

I was referring to our speed camera database which is available in the correct format.

Re-reading your post I think you were meaning how do you convert your existing POI files to the Comand format? For that you'd need to write a script that converts the format for you.
