As a result of the Sirfstar3 problem, I have removed it from my 530 - so far, so good.
But have been thinking about my 550 suddenly dropping the satellite fix last April, as I drove past Beaulieu. It showed me about 200m West of my position in a field - sounds familiar. It did not settle down until the following morning. So my question? _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

If you delete the ephemeris folder does it get recreated?
If not, it can't update QuickGPSFix.
I can't remember if LIVE devices recreate it if it isn't present or not. |

If the gps data is updated via the Live connection, why am I offered a QgpsF download when I connect to Home? _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

There is a theory that the Quickfix data is actually being cached on the Sirfstar chipset itself.
If that's the case (and that cache certainly isn't getting cleared in a normal reset) then deleting the previous Quickfix files is not enough, you need to actually REPLACE them with a fresh set.
If that theory is correct, then you are locked in... all you can do is allow it to install one 'good' Quickfix download then let it expire and not download any more.
If Quickfix gets sent "over the air" on LIVE devices, then I guess there's absolutely nothing you can do to stop it unless you turn off everything, either by saying "no" to data sharing (maybe) or by taking the SIM card out!
(Incidentally, from checking a few old bookmarks, I've just reminded myself that the Go720 DID used to have a "disable QuickGPSfix" item on the menu... removed presumably in TomTom's mad dash for "simplicity" and not scaring the poor punters. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

I thought we were meant to control technology? We're all doomed.... _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]
