|
|
Have had my Nuvi 760 for a couple of years now and its worked reasonably well during that time.
I noticed today that it repeatedly froze shortly after being switched on. I also notice that when used off the in-car cradle it not only freezes but switches itself off after a few minutes.
Any ideas of what may be causing this and how to resolve the problem?
TIA |

My 760 also died whilst navagating recently.
When in the cradle, connected via the cigarette lighter, it navigates for a few seconds and then the screen freezes. It doesn't respond to any taps and all you can do is turn it off and repeat the cycle.
When running on battery, the screen responds to taps but approx 30 seconds after starting to navigate, it just switches itself off. (The battery indicator seems ok and I have left it plugged in to the mains in case the battery was not sufficiently charged). |

Exactly the same as mine. |

Me, too. With the latest maps (Europe 2013.10) the unit was automatically updated to software 5.20 from the previous 5.10.
Yesterday, in Austria, the unit kept freezing and then, after a few restarts would switch off after about 10 seconds and then restart or freeze again. This happened after going through some long tunnels. Diagnostics gave the reason as Data abort.
I cured the problem by a hard reset (switch on while holding bottom left (no right - see edit below) corner of screen and accept that you will lose user data). In fact, my favourites were preserved and I merely had to confirm my language, voice etc. So far, today, it seems to be fully back up but I have downloaded the 4.90 software from Perry's site as a precaution.
Edit: Sorry, bottom right hand corner, not bottom left and my software is 5.30 not 5.20.
It seems that this 5.30 software may be buggy as others are experiencing the same problems.

Bottom right or bottom left?
What is the process (seconds to hold etc) from there?
Thanks
EDIT: After a quick Google I found it is bottom right. Just did that and held the bottom right until the dialogue box appeared. Then accepted the YES option which reset the unit.
Seems to have fixed the problem |

I also, having pressed the correct corner eventually, seem to have a functioning sat-nav again. I suppose only time will tell.
Thanks for the information.
(I note that there is a mention of v5.20 automatically installing with latest maps. My machine seems to be running v5.30). |

SORRY! It was bottom right - I had a senior moment when posting! Glad it fixed your problem. You will have to reset your voice as well as some of the more obvious preferences which it asks for when it boots up. |

Yes - but that would have made nonsense of the replies. |

Quite right, you shouldn't edit it to make a nonsense of the other replies, but you could do something like this:
bottom left hand corner Edit: sorry, bottom right hand corner.
This would ensure that anyone reading it got the message first time without having to read on. |

Same problem with mine on 5.30 software. I'm on my third "hard" reset. After the first two I reloaded my routes back on and the same problem recurred after a week or so.
This time I just left it as is and so far no problems.
There were a couple of dodgy looking files in the garmin directory...example f8aec213-c379-4a08-bf80-197bf3265685.gma but have queried all the files with Garmin who say they are OK.
I'll now reply to them saying other people are experiencing the same problem and see what helpful reply I get _________________ Navigating by Sony SatNav (built in)
