I'm a flashaholic and am frequently changing ROMs on my phone which changes my device ID each time.

This means after every 3 ROMs I have to visit the support page, request the links are reset and manually tap in the new (very long) device ID

A few suggestions to make this easier in order of preference (most desired at top)

1. Allow management of linked devices through the app itself where you can unlink existing devices and link the current device without raising a support ticket.

2. Ability to raise a ticket in-app where device details and username etc are automatically populated.

3. Use Android "Share" function to place the device ID # directly into an email which can be sent to a support email.

4. At least allow the copy of device ID # to clipboard to eliminate human error when typing in manually.

Thanks,
Stuart

Thanks for the suggestions. How would you judge them in respect to piracy prevention?

I think that is one of the drawbacks. If you do 'flash the rom' or install different OS on your PC/Mac then it is a small price to pay. It goes with the territory.
No matter what the software is, it is going to need to 'recognise' the computer/phone it is connected to.
That's how licenses work, same as the Road Tax on your car and TV licence.

And we're rather more generous than some who have a restriction on the number of devices you can change in a six months period?

The issue with ROM flashing and change of ID is Android's at the end of the day. If they fixed that so the ID wasn't changed when you flashed a ROM, the problem wouldn't exist.

Is it really not that onerous to open a ticket, and, once we have reset, all you have to do is input your user-name and password to reconnect. At no point do you don't need to tap in the unique ID on your device or am I misunderstanding?

The above thread led me to believe you had to put in your ID when submitting a ticket, in which case a copy text function and link to the support page would be extremely handy.

If that isn't the case then my suggestions are indeed unnecessary, although at least a direct link to the support page to raise a ticket would be very handy.

All we need when raising a ticket to reset your device count is your user-name.

Like the big 'Support' tab at the top of every page of our website?

we could add the support button option to the linking page on the device - would that help?

OK, I may be missing something but....

I've just had my phone re imaged by Samsung.

I've reloaded CamerAlert, and I think successfully linked it to my account, as it has allowed me to download the same version of the database twice (I'm presuming 1st one would be the free offer, but 2nd would only be available with an account) and the screen shows my name and Subscription Expiry date.

BUT, when I start the app, it tells me that a Subscription will keep me safe!

SO, I presume that I've hit the 3 Device ID limit.

....

If I raise a support ticket and I don't enter the Device ID, which Darren tells us that we need, in the out of date Sticky, but then tells us above that we don't need Shocked, how will the powers that be tell which devices to remove and which ones to leave active?
I'm presuming that some users actually have multiple active devices, rather than just being mucked about by Android?

Surely a more sensible approach would be to recognise that a 4th device had been registered and offer the user some way of selecting the previous one to remove? I don't understand Lutz's concern over security?

If that's not possible, could we have a button on the about page, that raises a support ticket directly, or populates an email message, containing the Device ID?

The thing telling you how important subscriptions are is a tip, and not related to any device count. These tips will pop up every now and then, and you may see the same tip again after a re-imaging.
