Hi Chookman, I was wondering if you were able to resolve this problem? I have exactly the same problem. When connected via WiFi I can display the map without problems but if I try GPS only it just displays a grid but still knows where I am.
I have checked the settings and show map, Always is definitely selected.
Thanks. |

GPS tells the phone the position. It does NOT mean an internet connection!!
Make sure your phone is set up correctly for mobile data - eg can you get your emails and browse the web while you are away from WiFi? If not then that will be your problem

Sorry, poor choice of words. Yes I have an Internet connection as I can access Facebook and emails (not via WiFi).
Thanks very much. |

Hi CAA_0513123846. I'm not really sure what you are trying to achieve.
If I read correctly --
a) When you DO have WiFi (or data) and when GPS is enabled your phone shows your location on a map. Isn't this is what you would expect?
b) When you do NOT have WiFi (or data) and when GPS is enabled, the maps are not downloaded and your position is shown on a grid because the maps have not been downloaded. Isn't this what you would expect?
Unless you are hoping that the maps have been cached and that you should still be able to see them. If this is the case, perhaps your phone has an aggressive cache cleaner setting. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

Hi again,
AliOnHols - Thanks for your response. I have resolved the problem now. It seems that it just took longer than expected to download the map data. I took a short drive and after about 6-7 minutes the map started to display. It didn't appear all in one go, it took around another 1-2 mins to pull all the data in but all is good now.
Thanks again gents :-) |

I can reproduce this 'grid only' behaviour by trying to run the app from the SD card.
Move it to the phone and it's fine.
(I have buying a more powerful SD card on my list) _________________ DashCam:
