As a total virgin to Android but otherwise quite computer literate I'm hoping somebody on the forum can point me in the right direction.

I'm looking for a SAT NAV system that works on an Android 4 tablet. I would prefer one that includes the maps rather than relies on downloading the maps as you go along. I'm happy to pay a reasonable sum for this program.

I could live with downloading the maps before I set out but this does require a bit more organisation and time than I often can manage.

Thanks in advance for any help

Try Sygic, which I find very good and which says it is compatible with Android 4. The price includes specified maps that you can download any time you want and keep on your tablet. I have all of Europe, but have only downloaded those countries I have visited so far.

Not sure what you call a "reasonable sum" but UK and Ireland is £17.49 and Western Europe is £34.99.

And you can update maps for free.

I endorse the previous recomendation for the latest Sygic. It has the added benefit of allowing your own custom POI sets to be installed.

i use Navigon on my HTC Sensation. It has just been updated with a few more tweaks for tablets (I don't have one so can't comment).
I saw a coouple of weeks ago that there was a price drop on the App so not sure how much it is now.
Works well, I like it having moved over from a TT720.

Only down side for me is that custom POIs are not allowed, so you can't use the PGPSW POI database or others.

That is correct and I have the PGPSW camera database installed and used as a visual warning. I then have CamerAlert running in the background (with Sygic in the foreground) to give me voice warnings. That way I only get voice warnings (which are more intrusive) for those cameras that are relevant to my direction of travel.
