Caberg Helmet Set with TomTom PND

Hi,I was thinking of buying a tom tom 920t as i need a sat nav with USA maps, i want to use it with a Caberg helmet headphone set, this has bluetooth, has anyone on the forum used this set up?Thanks

The TomTom 920 produces instructions over Bluetooth using the A2DP audio protocol.
You'll need a headset that can cope with that, NOT one that just uses the mobile phone protocol, it's different.

Where are you hoping to find a 920 though? They are VERY old now.

There are lots of newer models with US maps built in, or with the ability to add them, but only the Go940 has the Bluetooth audio built in.

you might be better off with a unit with an audio line-out and a separate BT transmitter.

Sorry Andy,i`m a bit of a technophobe, All went totally over my head, i have not yet purchased the sat nav or the headset,the sat nav i was buying was 2nd hand, what model would you suggest i invest in that would be fit for purpose?Thanks

Hi lammount, this is a FAQ to which there is no real answer but many solutions.

Bluetooth speaks in various languages, the TomTom version of Bluetooth is called A2DP (a Google shall yield more info) so your headset shall need to speak this same A2DP language.

If you go to This Thread and follow the links within to glean more info and some solutions.

The Motorcycle Forum is probably the best place to search for solutions and working combinations.

As for the TomTom itself, lammonut, don't get me wrong... the Go930 was a great model, better than many new ones. I still have a Go720.

But if you find one second hand, you'll need to check how old the maps are and factor in a big chunk of your budget to update them if they are older than you'd like. (it could easily be £70-£80 to update both Europe and US maps!)

Also the internal battery may be a bit knackered by now so it won't stay self-powered for long, although that won't matter if you intend to use it mostly powered from the bike.

940 = Very good, but still not sure if it shall pair with your intended helmet. The specs for that helmet are sparse to say the least. Do you have a link to the spec sheet?

Don't be tempted to connect to the TomTom website and update anything on your 940 just yet. Make a back up using windows explorer first, then read what the newer software has to offer and see if it is for you. All my GOs are still on the old software because I prefer it.

Also, just remembered that the 940 has a non-standard mount, which may prove tricker, but not impossible, to mount on your handlebars/yoke.

There are some who would consider the 940 to be TT's finest so it's not a bad buy, the helmet headset is where I would advise caution.

Sadly, there isn't an answer when trying to get a car SatNav to work satisfactorily on a motorbike, just work-arounds.

My advice would be stick with the existing helmet for the moment, try a few low-cost solutions until you find what works best in terms of comfort, wind noise, navigation volume, mount, gloves/screen combo and electrical supply. Get a feel for what you've got and research carefully where/how to improve upon it.
