I am sure this will be in the forums somewhere but I cannot find it. I have a TT1005. Its purchase included a years sub to cameras which I don't use as I use PGPS World product. I have to update via My Tomtom not Home. Yes - Oh dear! Recently I updated my map and it took the usual couple of hours. Along side the map update was a camera update. I ticked France as I assumed it would replace the data file with a nil file. The download of the map made it but fell over on installation. The only way to get a map back in the unit was to unplug and start again. It worked. The option to download cameras was still there so I ticked France again. Before the update ran, the programme itself removed the French option.
To see if the cameras had been removed I ran a demo journey in Paris and they hadn't. Emails to TT produced repetition of the stuff they have on their help pages but nothing more helpful than "disable the cameras and you will be all right". Um! Their web page says they are working on a solution to remove cameras from "My Tomtom devices" but it has been saying that for months. They must be concerned because although they didn't ask for a reply, they have written to me again asking why I didn't reply and has the problem been solved?
Before "My Tomtom" it was possible to edit the TT camera file to remove it. I tis now no longer is possible, Today I received another cameras update and France is missing from the list.
I also read somewhere that mobile cameras are updated over "Live" but fixed cameras by "My Tomtom" and so may still be on the device.
Am I right to assume the French data file will remain on the TT1005 for ever unless TT come up with a method to remove it and does disabling it really protect you under French law?
Again apologies for a post which I am sure is covered elsewhere. |

Thanks Griffog,
I was aware that they are but I find it unbelievable that they still haven't resolved it and, last week, I still had French mobile cameras on my unit. This IS a paid for service after all. TomTom have told me to download the update on cameras that came out a couple of days ago as they have made improvements to the system but there is still nothing on French cameras in it. The purpose of my original post was to see if anyone knew how we would treated under French law if we were stopped but even TomTom seems unable to answer the questions

Comment by TomTom users in France would indicate that most French are ignoring the problem and they say the police would need a warrant to search for data in the unit anyway. That may well be the case but a UK number plate is a magnet to police who take on the spot fines. French users say always refuse to pay cash, go to a police station to pay by card and demand a receipt which you are entitled to. The paper work involved tends to put them off. Not That I am likely to be travelling with E1600 just in case. I guess we will find out eventually. |

This is a quote from the My TomTom page
Quote: | Updates are automatically uploaded to your device once you connect your device to MyTomTom. More information can be found here.
It is illegal to receive speed camera alerts in France. This update removes the speed camera alerts for France from your device. We will not send you any more speed camera location updates for France. When available, we will update this service to warn about danger zones in France.

When I re-enabled cameras It didn't work for me after all forms of reset and the TomTom CS people tell me they can see that I successfully downloaded the dummy files. They are looking into to it, or at least they said they were 6 days ago.
Did it work for anyone else? |
