All,

Not been on here for ages.

My trusty Navman IC510 has finally given up the ghost. I'm now in the market for a new Sat Nav.

I've read all the reviews and I'm more confused than I was back then.

I'm just after a simple satnav, for UK only use, that can alert me to speed cameras and can have POI updates. Just want it to pick up GPS quickly and get me from A to B.

My budget is £110 max.

Any pointers would be much appreciated. Thanks

If you can strech your budget by another tenner I would look at the TomTom Go-550 Live, you get 12 months free Live services, at the end of the 12 month period you can simply carry on using the device without the Live services to avoid the subscription charges.
The Go-550 Live doesn't use the horrible MyTomTom web based PC connectivity, you can still use Windows Explorer or the TomTom Home_2 app to add POI files etc, its got UK & ROI mapping included see Here - Mike

Mike,

Thanks for that. Noticed the XL IQ Routes on the same link at £99.99. This any good or is the Go-550 better?

Thanks

As long as its the XL IQ Live and there is no small number 2 in the device name then its a credible performer but you will miss out on the Live services and Text To speech which you get with the 550 Live, in addition the 550 can act as a handsfree device for your phone - Mike

Check the prices, you don't get Live devices for under £100 - Mike

True enough, but it looked like you were saying you wouldn't get Live services on the XL LIVE. Confused

The go 550 live states that you can drive through 30 countries with this service but on the maps it states it only has UK and ROI. Could you explain this please?

Knowing TomTom's sales tactics, I expect that 'countries' is a typo for 'counties'

The Live services can be obtained in over thirty countries but the 550 Live is only supplied with maps of the UK & ROI so traffic data outside of the UK is rather useless on this model unless you install a European map.

One other thing to consider is the HD Traffic is coverage within the UK, to most people from the UK, UK as in United Kingdom would mean England, Scotland and Wales. TomTom HD Traffic doesn't seem to contain any information for Wales or Scotland which might be important dependent upon where you travel/ commute etc. TomTom have been asked time and time again about this issue and offer no suitable explaination as to why the coverage isn't full UK - Mike
