Been scanning through old posts and can't seem to find the answer.....
Is there any way I can find out how old my newly acquired (used) Satmap Active 10 + is?
Thanks |

Hello again amb67.
I can't think of a way of telling its age other than asking SatMap. They will presumably keep a record of serial numbers and possibly when they were first registered. However they will probably have more important things to do than look that up even if they have the data. So you could ask but don't expect a reply.
However - why worry? If you sync to the internet with SatSync you can ensure that you have the latest software. I am not aware of any substantial changes in the hardware since they came out, though others may have better information. If at any stage you are concerned that the physical unit may be showing signs of age you can always send it back to SatMap for a service and that should sort out anything of import.
Has that helped? _________________ LostMike

Thanks for the reply, I'm not really that worried about the age of my Satmap, it was more of a question relating to any possible hidden menu's that allowed users to see production dates.
I've upgraded the unit to the latest software and it has added some extremely useful functionality, so far I'm extremely impressed with the Satmap unit.
The previous owner sold it as 'almost new' used once I think he once said and to be honest it is in pretty good condition but appears to have sustained some scratches on the screen. (See my other post) I'm thinking that the unit is around 12 months old or so judging by the software version it had before I upgraded it.
I may email Satmap about this but as you say I doubt it will be on their priority response list.
cheers

The only hidden menu I know of is:
Settings - About
Then press the following buttons: top left, top right, top left
You'll get more detailed info on software revision and platform (firmware) version. |

There are 'hidden' buttons that you can access....the guy in the shop on their road show showed me....but what/how he did it I'm not too sure. In fact somewhere in this forum were a few comments about how to access, (at your peril!)...maybe a couple of years back ? |

I'm a self confessed twiddler too, don't want to damage the unit but I am intrigued at what the 'Dimage button' is or does.....

It goes into some sort of back programme that immobilises all the buttons, thus requiring a reboot, and loss of data and settings , no damage as far as I can tell, it still acquires satellite lock, et al.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll stay away from that button then.

As far as I can remember, DiMage performs a disk image of the RAM disk used in the Active 10 onto any SD card you have inserted at the time - it takes a while, freezes the unit while it's doing it, and risks wiping out any data files you have on the SD card (like MAPS!). Unless you're a programmer who knows how to debug Windows Mobile hex dumps, it's really not going to be much use to you, so as a previous poster recommends....steer clear!
(And yes, I did try it once. I won't be doing it again.) |
