Has TomTom Forgot About Scotland? (EDIT: & Wales?)

Today is the second day in a week that the Tay Road Bridge has been closed due to adverse weather (winds) and is expected to be closed for most of the day again.
The alternative route adds around an hour to a journey at best.

Today is the second day in a week that TomTom have not been reporting this. This was also the case last week when the Forth Road Bridge was closed all day too.

Many other road closures and warnings are in place and not a single mention of them from TomTom's HD service.

There RDS service seems to be FAR more informative of this such information so why on earth can they [TomTom] not get this right?

This really is frustrating knowing this is a premium service that could and SHOULD be much better.

Completely agree! Every occasion where I have been held up in traffic over the past 9 months has been as a result of roads being closed for a variety of reasons: accidents; routine maintenance; landslip as in the case of the Rest and be Thankful; road closures in Glasgow resulting from the fire in Morrison Street...

If these incidents are not reported, it makes a mockery of the whole service.

I am due to renew my subscription in a couple of months; at the moment I am doubtful of its value Evil or Very Mad

Completely agree too, but I suspect something else is going on.

All English incidents like this are reported by the Highways Agency which I believe does not cover Scotland.

I think that the Scottish equivalent that Tomtom relies upon for its data like you mention is much less reliable than the Highways Agency here in England.

I could be wrong, but that is my most informed and best guess!

Just checked and Traffic Scotland IS reporting the closure of the Tay Bridge and concurrently the Tomtom LIVE traffic website is NOT showing the closure, simply the traffic jams of all the traffic routing around the next best route past Perth!

Thinking about it again, Tomtom may not have an agreement to use the TrafficScotland.org data, which would explain it!

Perhaps the most annoying thing about all of this is that these road closures are all correctly reported on both the BBC and RAC travel pages/apps. Unless they sort this out, Tomtom will lose a lot of customers!

We **just** got Live Services in Canada about a month ago and when I see stuff like this where I'm located (largest city in Canada), makes me wonder what all the hullabaloo is about regarding Live Traffic. And I don't mean issues with restricted horizons but the ones where serious road blockages are not shown in Live Traffic.

Looking at Wales....I see there are no incidents reported their either.

It appears as if TomTom has assumed that the Highways agency data covers the whole of the UK, and not just England.

Talkabout a Schoolboy error. Shocked

Well, that explains similar problems I've had over the past few days up here in Aberdeenshire/Moray - roads closed but TomTom says they are open as normal!

I had thought the closures were so new that TomTom simply hadn't updated their systems but one closure was for a couple days and still didn't show up.

Not good TomTom, not good at all!

To put my two penneth in to this debate as an Englishman living in Scotland; the A7 trunk road which runs north into Scotland from Carlisle (M6, j44) has been closed since 0738 this morning for a fatal accident just south of Longtown (pronounced Longtoooooooooooooooooon) and is still closed as I write (1622).

TT HD traffic is still showing the road between Carlisle and Longtown (both towns are in England) as open with no issues. It has made only been reported on BBC R2 traffic news, BBC local radio Cumbria and BBC Scotland traffic news.

The HA dont consider it a major enough road to bother with...?

Road closures have forever been the flaw in HD Traffic. Since the key information is based on the movement of mobile phones, a closed road has no phones and therefore appears to be fine. TomTom used to, I think, manually enter big closures, but it was usually late and often took too long to be removed too, particularly for minor roads.

With the supposed integration of the Traffic England info, one would have hoped that this would change, but it doesn't appear to work well. And given the staff cuts, I suspect the ability to improve it will not be there.

Sad really.
