Hi Guys
I have just bought an iPad2 and loaded the CamerAlert App
I had zero luck getting it to work so did a bit of a search on the internet and was told that the iPad2 WiFi version does not have GPS, the only version that does is the 3g version.
Is this correct.
Thanks

|

Interesting - I couldn't find anything about ipads here in the forum.
I have used the GPS app to get a reading on my iPad before - so google maps works fine - but i guess you would say that is locating from something else?
As it is advertised as an ipad/iphone app would be good to have a warning.
The screen appeared with a map - used my location - got reasonably close on first map display.
I tried the mirror display mode - as that was my interest - that worked. Then went back to your news letter. Read that. switched back to app - it has hung the ipad. Never seen anything like it - can't force a power off - slide not responding to touch - this is under OS5. Double tap on home key worked once to show the cameraalert icon first in the row - now stop responding - can't even enter passcode phrase now.
Any known issues here? Not surprised Apple saying crashes - it does. Maybe it was about to ask me to download the first free database or subscribe? Despite what you say in your newsletter. Be happy to help you if there is a crash log but it seems to have totally munted the iPad.
If I can get it going I'll try some diagnostics. |

@Paul80: you can rig a BT GPS receiver to your iPad2 if you want. _________________ Lutz

Hi gonville, welcome to PGPSW.
A WiFi fix will get a fairly accurate lock for your location - especially if there's a lot of routers around and you're sitting on your sofa.

Where did you see it mention it worked on non-3G iPads? We may have a page that needs updating.

The iPad 2 does not have built in GPS. I have purchased a GNS 5870 MFI Bluetooth GPS receiver and this works seamlessly with the iPad2. Tested with Tomtom and Viewranger so far. _________________ -------------------------

Was just trying to be helpful about the Bluetooth receiver option. I meant to type 'Ipad2 wifi only version' does not have GPS. _________________ -------------------------
