|
|
My Tomtom 520 reguarly loses satellite signal and then can no longer be used. I have tried holding the reset button for 20 seconds then the power button, but this doesn't seem to fix it. Then later on it will start working again for a short while. Another GPS device works fine in the car.
I have made a backup using Tomtom Home.
Has anybody else had this problem and managed to fix it or does it sound like a hardware failure?
Thanks |

If you connect to the computer and use Explorer to delete anything in the ephem folder on the unit and then go here:
c:\documents and settings\yourname\my documents\TomTom\Home\Downloads\Complete\ephemeris\
and delete any sub-folders found there, then connect to Home, you should get a new gpsquickfix file.
Install and disconnect from Home properly using the Device Disconnect icon. See if that helps. _________________ David |

No unfortunately that didn't improve things. It seems to lose GPS signals quickly and then doesn't get it back again. |

Do you by chance have a vehicle with an athermic windscreen? They sometimes play havoc with gps signals. _________________ David |

Does it lose signal whilst actually in use or is it just very slow to get a signal on start-up?
Might also be worth running ClearFlash, see here. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks for your replies. No just got a standard windscreen. It does lose the signal whilst in use and now is proving impossible to get a signal on startup. I have also tried deleting the Tomtom app and reinstalling it using HOME. Tried the clear flash tool as well all with no luck.
Should the yellow and black circle rotate when on GPS status mine is frozen? |

It rotates to show that it's searching for the satellite signals. I don't think it ever stops (normally). _________________ Richard

If the little circle has stopped the unit isn't receiving any GPS data, either the aerial has died/ disconnected, either way there isn't anything you can do - Mike |
