Do we yet know if the TomTom Start Classic to be released on 21 October 2011 will be able to use the PGPSW camera database. _________________ Dave R (h5djr)

Have you got a link for details about it? I can't see it mentioned on the UK TomTom website.
Normally, whenever TomTom release a "Classic" edition, it's to bring back the original version which had been superseded by an "improved" model (that was usually worse!)
However, the original Start (Regional) is still being sold alongside the Start2, so I don't know how a Classic would differ from the original!
As for using the PGPSW database, that depends on
1. the ability to add third-party POI files, and
2. having an audible "warn when near POI" feature
Out of the box, the Start and the Start2 models couldn't do these, but the compatibility chart on the database download page says.....

START and Ease do not offer functionality officially but this can be implemented via a custom menu. Please see the forums for details. |
One such forum topic is this one....

It's on Amazon, though not a lot of technical details.
According to Sat-Nav Discounts the Start GB and Start EU have been discontinued. _________________ Anita

As usual the TomTom website is behind everyone else!
But hang on.... That Amazon one just looks like the normal "Start" to me (which is still available on the TT website).
So I think TT have got a load of old stock (remember we have the Start, the Start2 AND the Start20 and 25 now) and they have now offloaded some of them onto Amazon,
And Amazon have taken it on themselves to call it the "Classic" and give it a "launch date" to drum up some interest.
(It wouldn't be the first time!) _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |
