If anyone on this forum has managed to make a working mapsettings.cfg file for alerts for near Europe cams, I would apreciate a copy or could they, with Mike's permission, have their file downloadable from page 1?
Many thanks,

Works on mine, although for traffic and live services you need some kind of data connection either a 3G iPad 2 or an iPhone or similar that can act as a hotspot.
You could also use a MiFi to provide this.
If you can do without live services you don't need data just the iPad 2's own GPS.
Currently the app is not optimised for iPad so you need to click in the bottom right corner to make it fill the screen.
This also means it only works in portrait mode
I believe that TomTom are shortly to release a new version for iPad ! |

I am having problem with cfg file.
I downloaded speed cameras from this site:
http://www.poiplaza.com/index.php?p=search
For Belgium.
There are 2 categories, speed camaras and mobile radars also.
They are already on the poi database in the iphone
But I want that the app alerts me when I am close to any of those POIs or radars or camaras.
Somebody recommended to edit the CFG file, but if I open it in notepad its not easy to do.
Any idea? |

Load the files to a TomTom pnd and set up the camera warnings then copy the MapSettings.cfg file from the device to your PC.
Rename the MapSettings.cfg file to mapsettings.cfg
Copy the file to the TomTom app on your iPhone making sure that the app isn't running in the background and that you put it in the correct folder.
To display the icons correctly you will have to use a graphics program on the PC to save each icon in the 24bit png format - Mike |

The iPhone app is not designed to support third party POI's and hence doesn't offer any warnings for them.
The method described in this thread allows you to "tweak" the app to offer this functionality by utilising a mapsettings.cfg file created on a PND which does support third party POI's and warnings.
There is a "sample" mapsettings.cfg file in a zip file on page 1 of this thread, if you need anything different you will need to obtain a PND and create one, then copy it to the relevant folder on the iPhone.
This is what I did! |

Yes, see the reply three above yours (noting the spelling change required). _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

You can also do a full windows explorer copy/backup of your PND to a memory card and then use that with TomTom home to create mapsettings.cfg files for your iPhone, meaning that you don't need to keep the PND if you switch to iPhone TomTom.
See my post on page 24 of this thread posted Sep 08, 2011 12:04 pm. |

Thanks for the swift replies.
Before trying to create my own mapsettings.cfg file, I thought I would give the one on page 1 a go.
I have followed all the instructions,
1) Put all the files (OV2, PNG and OGG) into the western europe directory.
2) copied the new mapsettings.cfg file into the documents directory.
3) Reset my iPhone 4
4) Turned off the TomTom speed cameras
now when I try it, the icons appear okay along the route, the voice announces them ok, but I do not get any icon in the top left corner of the screen with the countdown to the speed camera.
I have also noticed that in the POI menu on the phone, not all icons show up (some of them are the default hands).
What am I doing wrong!
Thanks

Roger, The warning top left has been dropped from the more recent versions of the software, it never worked fully on the iPhone4 though due to the retina display resolution.
As for some icons displaying as red hands, can you let me know which ones they are as it might be they are still 8 bit png images which need to be changed to 24 bit in order for the app to use them correctly - Mike |

If you need to convert any .BMP files to .PNG for any of your POI's you can either use the windows paint option described much earlier in this thread or;
If you have a lot to convert I found this, which made this task a whole lot easier....
http://www.faststone.org/download.htm
FastStone Photo Resizer 3.1 Freeware (Last Update: 2011-05-04)
An image converter and renaming tool that intends to enable users to convert, rename, resize, crop, rotate, change color depth, add text and watermarks to images in a quick and easy batch mode.
It can be set to convert to 24 bit, resize and save as PNG all in one go.
You can point it at a folder contents and batch convert the entire contents in less than a minute.
There may well be other programs which will do the same! |

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the super quick response.
I tried removing the .png files (the ones I had installed from your download on page 1) and replacing them with ones i had downloaded from the latest camera database.
These files I converted in Windows Explorer by just changing the file extension from BMP to PNG.
It seems it did not like these. I will go back to your files from page 1 (although some seemed to be missing from the POI menu in TomTom - a problem which was rectified when I added my converted files in????).
Now you have explained that I should not be getting the icon on the top left, it is all working fine.
I just somehow need to set up a Europe MapSettings.cfg files. I am having real problems doing this on my 730.
I don't suppose there is anyone out there who is willing to share one with me
Thanks for all your help,
Roger |
