I've already got Tomtom Navigator 3 Bluetooth + maps of GB.

I need to buy another GPS hardware receiver.
I've been recommended by a retailer that I should buy the Fortuna.

Can someone give me some comments of why the Fortuna is better than the Tomtom?

AND can I use the Tomtom software I've already got?
I was just worried there might be a software activation lock or something?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If you want to replace the TomTom BT receiver with the Fortuna - go ahead, no problem.

If you want to use the Fortuna together with a different Pocket PC and with TomTom 3 (and want to continue using TomTom on yyour original Pocket PC) then you must purchase a second license of TomTom 3. (they come software only, too)

I have both a Fortuna Clip-on and Tomtom Bluetooth GPS. They both work equally fine in the car, neither noticeable better than the other. However the Fortuna does have the XT capability which some folk on the forum go on about. I plan to use my Fortuna for treking later this year, and will probably find it more useful then.

I prefer the tomtom in the car as it sit's nicely on its magnetic plate, my fortuna slides around a lot as it keeps getting lose from the velcro I set up for it.

The Fortuna is also a bit larger and more bulky, but does come with a strap so you can hang it round your neck, or a belt clip if you so desire. It's obviously desinged for walking around with.

thanks for the reply.
hmmm... i might stick with the Tomtom in that case.

But... then... I've seen the Rikaline model.
16 hours run time!
But it seems to have had a few problems...?
Anyone recommend this one?

Regarding the s/w you already have, the Tom Tom website in the FAQ's states:

"Q. I am having trouble activating a second hand TomTom Navigator.

A. TomTom Navigator requires online software activation. All copies of TomTom Navigator are sold with a product code. This product code can be used to activate the software on two devices."

Without reading the license agreement (who does?) it appears it's OK to install it on 2 PDA's.
