1005 HD Traffic USELESS (and now older models too!)

Maybe it is the fact you are on Nav8 and not Nav9.

I grabbed some screenshots off of mine today whilst it had a gps lock - it takes a good minute for the HD traffic to connect from power on and it still downloaded a good 100 miles plus and within a second or two it was back to 50 miles. I will upload them to photobucket as one set was taken at the services on the M6 toll so reaches London easily until the device throws it all away.

I'm sorry, but if I am halfway down the M6 Toll I need to know which route to take to London - M1 or M40 - and I can't make that decision if my TT doesn't use the traffic data.

It was chaos around Brum this morning with the M5 closure, and my TT was not warning me of this from the start of the journey. Poor show!!!!

Yes could be due to the Navcore version. Strangely, the way mine seems to work is probably what TT intended to happen when they were trying to reduce server download volume. The way yours works dosen't make any difference to the download volume - so maybe TT have messed up their own "fix" Rolling Eyes

Just uploaded these to the facebook page in higher quality, along with a commentary. Worth a look as today was a really good example of how poor it is with the reduced range.

For what it's worth; today I left Ammanford for Swindon at around 12:30. Now we all know the problem at the M4 tunnels near Newport; it's been all over the radio today. The traffic reports were saying extreme delays from jct27 through to jct24. The motorway overhead gantries were confirming this and suggesting taking the A470 north. TomTom 550 Live was indicating a mere 3 minutes delay. Which/who do you believe? I decided to stick on the M4. As I approached jct27 TomTom announced delay had increased to 7 minutes. I decided again to stick with the M4; glad I did; the delay was under 2 minutes! What does this tell us? I'm not sure, but generally I tend to believe TomTom.

The algorithm that they seem to need equates proximity to length of delay, something like 5 minutes at 10 miles, 10 minutes at 20 miles etc. Then overall any delay on the route that has been around longer than an hour should be included wherever it is.

I live and often work within 20-30 mins or so of the M4 Newport incident at Bryn Glas Tunnels, and having to pass though or nearby several times yesterday and today, my TomTom was a lot more accurate than the news reports or some other traffic services, which also resulted in me taking the M4 (the TomTom recommended route) and arriving on time (or just about)

So whatever else people say about HD Traffic, and no service is 100%, it seems to be the best out there
