Hi MaFt,
Thanks for the "teasers". I have tried some of the existing sounds, but found them to be a bit "cartoonish". Nice to see we could get the chimes soon.

i think that would just get too confusing. at present we show the direction the driver must be travelling to get caught. that was there is only one thing to remember. if we started putting different arrows in different directions for different cameras then user would have to try remember what camera type it is and if it was then affecting them or not :/

I have been through all 13 pages looking for an answer to a question I have;
I have the App CA (well done to the team who put this together) & run it in conjunction with TT (uk & Europe) on an iPhone4.
Driving to Germany through France & Belgium in a few weeks, do I have their camera's on this app? |

Yes - CamerAlert app always downloads the entire database - if you go to Australia or USA they'll be on there too. _________________ Dennis

Is it possible to add a prompt when the DB is updated to announce on the iPhone? In the same way that Facebook alerts you to notifications even if the Facebook app is not running in the background?
Would be very handy to remind people to update every wednesday! I know it alerts when the app is first run after a DB update, but you may not be in an area of good or any signal at this point!

When I first start CamerAlert after the database has been updated (on Wednesdays), the nice lady say "Beware, you are not using the latest database, please update". She just did it an hour ago. Or are you talking about something else? _________________ Dennis

Something else, where you receive a notification when the app is not running or in the background that there is a new update out!
Like when someone sends you an SMS, and you get a notification.

Steven | Well, I also get emails on my iPhone and there's an email issued when the new release comes out. Or maybe the RSS feed does something? - I have no idea, because I have no idea how RSS feeds work (I have no idea what RSS feeds are, even!). _________________ Dennis

we've looked into PUSH notifications and I think it is more hassle that it is worth.
yes, it would be 'nice' to use the feature but would it really serve a purpose? facebook and sms is different - if something comes in then you would likely want to see what it is, hence the notification. you us the app SOLELY to see what the notification was for.
whereas with cameralert if you got a notification saying the database had been updated then would you jump straight away and update even if you weren't going to use the app? regardless of push notification, when you wanted to use the app you would launch it - so why not just tell the user then that there's been an update?

I think CamerAlert is a great app but I do think it is a bit verbose. I also have an OriginB2. The OriginB2 says "Gatso thirty!" while CA says something like "Fixed speed camera, thirty miles per hour." CA uses seven words where the Origin gets by with two words and is, I think, more impactful.
Thank you for your good work. |
