|
|
TomTom have announced the next generation of their HD Traffic platform, version 5.0.
HD Traffic is the TomTom service that delivers real-time traffic information to their LIVE connected range of PNDs and TomTom equipped smartphones. Utilising data from other LIVE devices as well as Vodafone network customers, the system can quickly and accurately pinpoint traffic issues and offer drivers routes that will avoid them.
New additions include automatic road closures which pinpoint the precise section of road that is affected and improved detection of standing traffic.
"Drivers will now have even better traffic information at their fingertips. We’re reducing driver stress levels" said Corinne Vigreux, Managing Director, Consumer at TomTom.
TomTom customers with HD Traffic subscriptions will automatically receive the update. For more information visit www.tomtom.com/services.

Really? The last time I used my TT, it was on the way to Calais, first of all it said there was a problem, then it said it was clear, then a problem, then clear & stayed that way.
What happened? We sat for nearly ˝hour in a traffic jam caused by a lorry fire on the M20 & nearly missed our shuttle to Calais, luckily we made it by minutes. ![Twisted Evil](modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_twisted.gif) _________________ Be alert.. This country needs more lerts. |

Every time I see you have replied in a thread I can be certain it's a gripe. Do you ever have a good day? We'll have to change your forum name to Victor Meldrew soon
I've slated HD Traffic in the past but my experience of late is that it is much improved and actually fulfils much of its promise now. Your mileage may vary. _________________ Darren Griffin

You won't. It's the back end service that will be updated. _________________ Darren Griffin |

It isn't perfect so hopefully this update will get rid of some of the bugs but even as is Tom Tom HD is just so damn good if you are a regular user of UK main roads. Countless times it's got me out of M25 issues.
So thanks for the heads up Darren |

Am I missing something? I can't see any discussion there of what's new in HD Traffic 5.0! _________________ Jock

Well, I'm hoping it means faster rerouting calculation. But I've got used to being disappointed by TT's publicity puffs. _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

In the press release it says, 'It provides a greater range of rerouting alternatives...' So I'd assumed it could perhaps be faster as there'd be more roads that were available to redirect to? _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

If anything I'd have thought having more options would slow the re-routing calculation but who knows. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I see the corporate announcement says that drivers with a Live subscription will get the update automatically. I guess that means a new version of Navcore unless there is something else. Clearly not just a back end upgrade, so be prepared for all manner of things to stop working properly again
Been pleased with HD traffic on my 1005, been probably 90% accurate for me, not got held up in anything I didn't know was there, although have breezed through areas it said were blocked, fingers crossed this is a worthwhile improvement. |
