It is encouraging to see the interest in this topic and the suggestion that it could be looked at.
I think it would sound better if the UK and Euro voice alerts were in the same voice. I always use the speed zoned versions to match the speedcam database on this site.
With regard to what the alerts should say. My preference is voice only, without any chimes. The warning needs to be clear. Perhaps evryone is not aware of the meaning of "specs." So if, for example, "specs--30" were used, it may not be clear that this was the average speed. Whereas "warning-- this is an average speed camera zone-- speed limit 30 miles per hour" is descriptive. The disadvantage could be that average speed zones can have a lot of cameras which will trigger the alert frequently.
Could a poll be set up so people could vote for their Euro and UK voice alert prefernce? _________________ TT 750 Live.

There is no way we have enough poll choices - I like your choice except I want a siren to start with and I like it so loud it blows the ears off anyone who is unfortunate enough to sit beside me. Andy wants "Specs 30". To set up a poll for all the possible choices would be a huge list (I mean, we haven't yet said male or female voice - and I can only hear female voices clearly, not male).
I believe this is a matter for PGPSW to decide in isolation - take it or leave it! With all the other current availablility continuing but unsupported.
I have feeling that brand new professional recordings might prove to be too expensive - cue Mrs, Miss and Master Darren! _________________ Dennis

For Europe I use "Text To Speech - Kate" and would be happy with them if they were complete. For UK I use "Text To Speech - Simon" which I also like. I wouldn't want a siren, and I also find quite a few of the UK recorded voices too raucous. _________________ TT Go Essential |

Point on poll noted.
The Euro voice alerts are not complete, whereas the UK ones are.
I suppose it boils down to a matter of preference, and mine is a female voice without a siren, although a chime prefix might be OK. As long as they are all the same.
However, if the Euro alerts could only be in a male voice (not TTS) then I would change to Simon. _________________ TT 750 Live.

We're a looking at this issue now. There won't be a poll as we already have professional voices recorded, we just need to get the converted and edited into the correct formats.

i agree with Andy_P in that the current warnings are to long, i have many a time gone through a heavy specs area and had to suffer the constant warnings, this was why i swapped to just boings and moo's.
A clear concise warning is what is needed, a chime or ding to bring your attention to the satnav and then a voice that says what to expect ahead, but briefly not something that takes 3 seconds to splurt out. _________________ Call Me N3wt for short.....
Gone back to XP after trying Windows 7, it was nice but i still prefer XP |

Speak for yourself! There is no way I want brief warnings - I want full length, plus incredible siren starter and huge volume like it's going out of fashion!!
It's why I said a poll is a non-starter and why I say PGPSW must decide arbitrarily what to offer as standard. I hope they allow the others to remain (unsupported) - I'll store them on my computer anyway and use them myself, come what may. _________________ Dennis

Whatever we come up with. the existing options will remain as an unsupported option for those who wish to continue using them. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thank goodness for that - I thought I might have to torment you all from Corfu outside Amstels and souvlakis and stuff. (That's me in shades tomorrow). _________________ Dennis

I look forward to seeing what you come up with and will delay any changes until then.
There doesn't seem to be a lot of previous activity on this topic, maybe people just use TTS or type in their own missing Euro voice alerts.
I am confident that something appropriate will be done. Will notification be on this thread? _________________ TT 750 Live.
