No it won't work the Go-1000 doesn't support the use of a remote control - Mike |

Thanks Mike. Do any of the new Tomtoms support the use of a remote? _________________ Tomtom 930 - excellent

I'm still using my 720 which I've got a remote control for, using the remote control makes using the 720 so much easier. Do any other sat nav's (non TomTom) have remote controls? |

I think TomTom were mad to drop the remote (as with many other things) - I find it very useful (and much safer). For this reason I recently upgraded to one of the last of the 750's available. _________________ Alan

Got to agree it's really useful and much safer than reaching over to press the screen, didn't realise how much until mine packed in recently. |

Why do you need a remote control? TomTom Website wrote: | The Voice command and control
Advanced speech recognition technology lets you control your TomTom device using voice commands. From planning a route to making a call, over 150 tasks are easily activated by voice, making your drive smoother and safer. |
Perhaps a slightly rhetorical question, however, as Voice Command and Control may perhaps not be all it's cracked up to be. I suppose it's OK for Memory Man who can memorise all those "over 150" commands.
My built in Carminat TomTom only works with a remote control. That's fine for reaching it, but what a pain when it comes to typing a long word or even a postcode - touchscreens on my others are so much faster. It would be nice if remotes connected exclusivley to just one device - I can't use mine (ex 920) for my GO520 or 550 because it wreaks havoc with the Carminat. _________________ Dennis

I never used the remote on my 930...
In fact I have still never even put the batteries in it.
A completely useless extra! _________________ GO 620, Tomtom Android EU,

I find the remote very useful for covering the shortcomings of the voice commands such as for most of them having to touch the screen first.
In a small car it is not worthwhile but in a large car it reallly is, I cannot touch the windscreen from the drivers seat and even mounted on the dashboard, I have to lean right forwards to reach it. _________________ Drivelux |
