TomTom Bluetooth GPS and Autoroute 2010

I have a TomTom bluetooth GPS receiver which connects to my laptop ok, but Autoroute 2010 does not work with it.
Does anyone know if there is a compatibility problem between them or any reason why it will not work.

I have AR 2010 but not on a laptop and no GPS dongle.

But have you done ... Tools --- GPS --- Configure GPS Receiver? (It says it must not be in use by any other program).

Yes i have tried that, I have even done the scan on the configure page but although it shows the port that the bluetooth GPS receiver is connectec too, it comes back saying that "No GPS device was found"

On the top of the configure page it says to "Ensure that your GPS receiver is NMEA 2.0 compatable" I am wondering if mine is, as I cannot find the paperwork that came with it

Sorry I can't help any further. Maybe a call to TomTom (number in my signature)? Why doesn't their GPS thingy work with AR2010? From what I read about phone bluetooth compatibiliy, I sometimes wonder if there's a TomTom bluetooth standard and a rest of the world standard. Rolling Eyes

Yeah! you are probably right, Apple do the same with their Bluetooth, but this time I think the problem is with Microsoft and not Tomtom.

Hi,

NMEA is a simple "send and hope" protocol, so you should be able to see the data with another program. Maybe another GPS app such as "GPSU" or even MS Hyperterminal. The official NMEA baud rate is 4800 baud, but the concept of baud rate with BlueTooth is largely notional.

If you can "find" the data stream on a port, then close down the app and see if AR2010 recognises the data on the port. This should at least give a clue to whether the the port is connecting, and the data format. You (or Google) should then be able to find whether either the TT GPS or AR can be configured to suit the other.

If you get stuck at any point, we'll try to help some more.

The TomTom GPS was SiRF-III and whilst it should be set to output NMEA data its possible its been switched to SiRF mode, if you can get Hyperterminal to display the data its outputting try to copy/ paste a couple of lines of what it is outputting then we can establish whether its NMEA mode.
If its in SiRF it can be switched back to NMEA but we will cross that bridge if/ when we have to - Mike
