Hi,
Just installed TT3 on a Toshibe e400. Software loaded fine but on running the wizard, I get an error message 'Cannot open Com1, Port does not exist'
Tried changing GPS to com2 but it seems there is no communication between the GPS receiver and PDA. Green LED flashes on receiver.
Tried unticking 'Receive all beams' in connections to try to free up com1.
still no joy.
Any ideas?? |

What GPS receiver are you trying to connect? The e400 doesn't have a serial port, only USB _________________ Lutz

I am running TT3 on a Toshiba e400 with a Haicom 204e, you need the correct cable for the GPS reciever/PDA and use com2. The cable has a usb/serial converter in it.
Working very well for me |

The GPS receiver was bundled with the TT3 software. The receiver is branded 'tomtom' and is marked on the back Sirf Xtrac.
I also had to buy a tomtom branded connecting cable (as part of a tomtom car holder package) so all connectors are correct.
In the tomtom GPS program, should I select COM2 or 'USB Cable?
I have tried both without success so I'm guessing I have a faulty receiver.
I would like to know if there is a definitive test for the receiver before I send it back.
I'd be grateful for any further suggestions |

The receiver seems to be ok (you say the green LED is flashing). But it's not an XTrac receiver as far as I know. Can you post a picture link?
If it is the standard serial receiver I think it is then you should be able to connect it to another Pocket CP or to your PC and see if it works. _________________ Lutz

yes, that's the standard serial receiver (a rebadged LeadTek 9531 i think). All you need is power (red and black) and TxD/RxD (green/yellow or white/brown). And a soldering iron ;-) _________________ Lutz

Lutz,
I agree that the mouse appears to be a Leadtek 9531 or 9532 (with LED). Reading the reviews on this site, the receiver clearly expects to be connected to COM1 which ties up with the message from tomtom wizard on first connection. Any suggestions on a utility to reassign COM1 on the Toshiba E400? There appears to be nothing included as standard. |

The Toshiba doesn't have a serial port. As Bowler said you need a USB-to-serial converter cable, which will emulate a COM port, but not COM1 - it will emulate COM2. _________________ Lutz

Guys,
Thanks for your patience! The cable I'm using was supplied by tomtom for use specifcally with the E400 / E800 PDA therefore I assume it must include the necessary USB-Serial converter!
Excuse me whilst I bang head against wall! |

IR is assigned to com port 1. Try disabling "Receive all incoming beams" in the settings. May or may not work, but worth a try. |

Update for anyone remotely interested.
Tomtom e-mail support suggested that Com2 is the correct setting. I have now tried two receivers and two tomtom cables with exactly the same result. I've done a hard reset on the E400 and also tried tomtom3.03. The problem still exists.
I'm now trying to get in touch via the help line
Am I the only person in the world trying to use Tomtom on an E400? |

Bowler,
Thanks for being persistent. I have tried to use Com2 but do not know how to set the baud rate...
Yesterday, I tried to use Leadtek Navigator but it reported an error that it could not open com2. I deleted TT3 GPS in the hope that it would free up Com2 but no luck
Would be grateful for tips on setting baud rate via the TT3 GPS? |

Success!
For anyone out there still struggling. I purchased a Haicom 204S and was instantly connected - worked first time!
Now to return the Tomtom receiver! |
