Only started happening after last version update. Seems to happen when first camera warning occurs. Running on HTC Wildfire running Android FroYo 2.2.

We're aware of a bug affecting Wildfire handsets (see today's Newsletter here) and are testing a fix with our beta testers at this very moment.
Gotta love Android - not. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks Darren. FWIW, I love and count on both Android and CamerAlert - I hope I can keep them both
Might it be possible to 'downgrade' to the previous version of the app, which was giving no problems? Meantime, I've deleted the app data and re-installed database, just in case there was a corruption somewhere. |

Downgrading is not an option unless you have a backup of the older version. But the update will be released as soon as we are happy it is a fix. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Finally got around to updating to v1.2.8.457
Good news : app no longer crashes on sight of first (or subsequent) camera
Bad news : incomplete and confusing voice alerts e.g. fixed camera zone warning given but no speed limit quoted (it was regular 40mph); 'all clear' given before camera passed; speed limit number given subsequently with no other verbals. None of the several well-known cameras I passed on local roads resulted in a correct and complete verbal.
Anyone else experiencing these issues? I've re-installed an old version I'd backed up at start of April, I'll try this tomorrow to see if problem recurs. |

My HTC Hero is given the Force Close "camer alert has stopped unexpectedly" notice as soon as I try to update cameras. Running v1.2.9.457. Have powered down phone etc. But no difference.
camer alert seems to run Ok otherwise.

Well my old version gave a 'force close' so I re-installed v457 which again gave me mistimed and incomplete verbals. Last resort has been to completely uninstall app then re-install from scratch, including leaving it on phone rather than moving to SD card. Another try tomorrow .... |

Re-install has fixed it.

It may have fixed your issue but I'm still not sure if a re-install has fixed mine. Only one local camera passed so far and verbal warnings were still late, with long gaps in-between phrases - I'd gone past the camera position before the speed limit was given. |

Burtonian - what are you running it on and are you running it in the background with another app? This is exactly what happened when I tried to run Cameralert in the background with Sygic MM10 (sat nav app) in the foreground on my Hero. It turns out that the phone was not powerful enough for them to run together. _________________ Peter

my hero did that if there was another ap running. it's terribly low spec comared to newer devices. but it was always the same symptoms: "fixed speed camera - gap - 30 - gap - miles per hour"
as a work around you could always turn on the shortened warnings (fixed - 30) and increase the warning distance?

My wildfire works perfectly with V457 and in fact it hasnt had a problem with any of the latest versions at all. Using Froyo 2.2 _________________ Asus Zenfone 2 twin sim, Garmin Zumo 550, 660 and pocketgps speed camera database

That may be an issue too. Whilst the app can run from SD, the database cannot. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks for the comments, guys.
I'm running Cameralert on a Wildfire with FroYo 2.2. The app ran perfectly well until first, the force close issue and, when that was fixed by the team, the slow vocals started. I have no other nav apps running and, apart from moving the app back to the phone memory, I don't believe anything is different (settings or other apps) from when it was working ok.
As a final offering to the Gods, I've also taken the phone battery out briefly. Hopefully all will be well when I try it tomorrow!
