|
|
A freind of mine had purchased an iCN630 a few months ago, and only got 2d maps with it (I think its SmartMap v1.4)
Is it possible to upgrade the software on this device to show 3D maps, i.e. Smart ST v2, or has he missed the upgrade boat or can he still get in touch with Navman about getting a free/discounted upgrade.

I'm fairly certain that your friend has missed the boat, but the best thing for him to do is contact Navman direct and see what they say. Presumably he is in the UK in which case the number to call is 0129 378 0500

I thought so too, cos I've been reading some old posts about having to get in touch within 30 days of the release.
Oh, well he can try and contact navman to see if they will let him have the upgrade, but I doubt it. _________________ Ipaq 4150, Polstar PBT-111, TomTom3, Kingston 256mb SD, Arkon Powered Amplified PDA Mount |

As far as I can tell the Navman Europe website says the Smart ST 3d update is Free, just download it from there. |

Where on the Navman Europe website did you find 3d software going for Free
I've just looked again and it says the V2 software for the iCN 630 is retailing at £299.00
Or am I missing something

iCN630 v1 to v2 was free for the iCN630 but I believe this offer has now ended. |

In fact, Registered Navman users were e-mailed back in February inviting them to confirm the Serial Number of their iCN630 and Postal details to enable them to receive the FREE V2 upgrade.
It said the FREE upgrade was a one off only and future software upgrades and maps would be, as expected, chargeable. The offer was open for 30 days.
This being the case it will be interesting to see what the cost of the next V3 software will be
However if you say that your friend only purchased his iCN630 a few months ago it must have been old stock. It's just a thought . Should that be the case, I should have thought that if he was able to prove he bought a V1 unit after that cut-off date, from a recognised stockist, then he may well have some recourse to obtain his Free V2.
Has he talked to Navman-Europe yet to find out It's got to be worth the cost of a phone call
Best of luck
Regards

I can't say too much on this subject, but expect upgrade prices to be similar to what they have been in the past. |
