LIVE means it's HD Traffic enabled.

The latest models, GO 1000, GO 1005 and Via have limited custom POI support.

They can use our database BUt installation is a long winded affair and no support for custom alerts.

We're hopeful that TomTom will improve this in due course. I'd suggest the GO 1000 if you want the latest model or if not so bothered about that, an x50 (550, 750 or 950) which have full support for POIs as well as custom icons, car icons etc.

I have never used the so called customised voice alerts, but find the choice of audio alerts more than good enough.

As I use the consolidated camera files it doesn't take too long to add the POI's.

The only way to get the 750 Live from TomTom is through their Refurb Outlet and it costs £150, for this price you DON'T get to update the map to the very latest.
However if you search on Amazon you can find the same TomTom 750 Live for £168 as a new item which does come with the latest map offer, for an extra £18 its well worth the outlay otherwise the installed map could be as much as 18 months out of date.
If you do go for the 750 Live get a 4GB MicroSD card for the device as the newer maps won't fit on the internal storage space unless you want to use the dummed down Zonal Euro mapping they seem to be peddling these days - Mike

Thanks for your advise Guys Smile

I have brought a Via LIVE 120 Europe from halfords yestoday , however i'm not 100% sure the Traffic is working.

Im in the North West and my Satnav is picking up 9 Incidents/7 miles long

On My dad's Tomtom 550 Live - The Traffic Won't Connect to it - it just says there was an error connecting to the server - with a Red Background.

Looking at http://www.tomtom.com/livetraffic , there seems to a a lot more that 9 Incidents in the UK.

is the Traffic Working Ok?

Is the TomTom Server down? (my dads Won't Connect??)

How Many does ur tomTom Pick up ?

Yes.

There are 9 incidents within about 100 miles of where you are in the north west.

You will only see incidents within up to 100 miles, so everything is working.

Only the GPRS traffic service which is not available on LIVE models does show all of the UK traffic.

The HD Traffic server is working at the moment.

I'm in Hull and my 550 Live is currently seeing 9 incidents - the furthest west being on the B6153 near Leeds, and on the M1 near Wakefield.

I've found that HD Traffic only sees incidents within about 50-60 miles or so from my current location, so you're almost certainly seeing a different 9 incidents to me.

Technik....do you mean the RDS traffic, or am I misunderstanding you? I'm confused, but it's still early Smile

**EDIT...I've now realised that you probably mean TT HD traffic running on a smartphone. Am I right?

Not RDS traffic.

GPRS traffic is the TomTom subscription traffic service for non-LIVE models.

It costs about £29/year to subscribe.

It is similar to the RDS free traffic except it uses your mobile phone to receive the traffic information which is then received on the TomTom GO via bluetooth.
The traffic information is updated every 15 minutes.

Thanks for that. I didn't know that service even existed for the non-Live models. No wonder I was confused! Confused

Are you sure GPRS traffic is still available for new users, I thought TomTom were phasing this service out - Mike
