This is not directly a CA problem, but it does cause problems while using CA in average speed zones situations.

Every so often my (new) HTC Desire's GPS seems to think it's way away from where it actually is, only for a second, but enough to cause the average speed in CA to display absurd readings (like 700mph!).

Could obviously way-out readings be filtered out by the CA software?

Sounds like you have set for positioning by gps and network so the position will jump to a nearby transmitter.

I do indeed have both selected -- belt and braces probably!

Presumably an inaccurate network position occasionally shows up because the GPS fix couldn't be obtained for a brief period?

Nevertheless, it should be possible for software to filter it out, based on immediately preceding activity. E.g., if I've been doing ±60mph, it's unlikely that I'll suddenly be doing much more than 70mph within a few seconds?

As tomthompson hints at, de-select "locate position by network", or similar, and you should be ok. It may be possible to filter out with a software upgrade but I'd guess that it's not high up on Google's Android bug-fix list.

w've seen many many weird and wonderful 'bugs' across all sorts of different devices. it may not be, specifically, and android bug but rather one with the different devices. the advanced options such as using cell location and the 'alternate gps start' are settings that have been added specifically for certain devices that are known to have 'funny' gps set ups...!

oh the joys of android development. no wonder lutz has no hair!
