Hi Just wondering if someone could help as I am stuck, I have a tomtom one with western europe maps down loaded the speed camera data base and and voice alerts, also the speed camera icons real voices. Everything was fine for a long time, then the other evening on the way to work my device had a mini fit and just reset it self to the defaults. Thats ok at work set it up again and everything seemed to work, tried it out on the way home in the morning, speed camera icons appeared voice alert sounded " gatso 30 etc", then the red light icon appered were it should but no voice alert. Ok tried to enable the voice alert for the red light but it will not go past the stage when you put how far you want the alert to sound from the red light. I am baffeled as it was working before it decided to reset it self. soryy for the long drawn out explenation any help would be appriciated thanking you for your time.
Nick

Does it say "Is this the sound you want?" and not make a sound, so you answer NO? That's where you answer YES even when there isn't a sound.

I think your mapsettings.cfg file got corrupted. It happens quite often in older 8.x navcores

What I would suggest (if you don't mind to lose all your Favourites Recent destinations and Home location) is simply to delete that file. Iit can be found in the map directory of your Tomtom.
It will be then automatically recreated but of course you have to input again all your warnings, Home location and Favourites (if you have a lot you can save the Favourites as a POI before deleting the corrupted mapsettings.cfg file).

I also suggest to do a full reset (depending on your model either pressing a small button on the bottom of the device or keeping pressed the On/Off button until you hear the drums sound) and also using the clearflah tool (available on Tomtom website), just to prevent future problems.

Check Dennis's suggestion first, as from what you say the MapSettings.cfg file isn't corrupted now as a new one will have been created after the crash.

I think you just forgot that there is this bug/funny in the set-up of audio files. You just need to do the distance setting, then say "Yes" to the question about the audio.
(There is a note about it in our instructions here, but you can be forgiven for assuming you'd not need to refer back to it again!)

Linking audio files like this was an undocumented bonus feature that TomTom never really sorted out to make it obvious what you needed to do.

But in their defence, they now have a better method of assigning audio files to POIs, it's described as "Method 2" on that same instruction page.

Both methods still work, but to my mind method 2 is more logical.

Right... I've seen this specific problem mentioned before, and there's a simple fix... I'll if I can find it in the forums (after hanging out the washing, otherwise the missus will kll me)....

Alternatively, you could have used "Method 2" in the voice set-up instructions (here). Works every time! Smile

'Ere, 'ang on. Is this the pMobiles problem?

I take it you can use Windows Explorer (or Mac Finder). Have you got the pMobile cameras installed? If I remember rightly, if you have the pMobiles and no voices for them, they jigger up the installation of voice warnings when you reach the redlight warnings.

Look at the file listing and see what you've got...

pocketgps_uk_mobile_tba.bmp/.ogg/.ov2
Then have you got pocketgps_uk_pmobile_ etc? before the redlights? Do the pmobile files also have .ogg files associated with them?

I found one mention of it here.

Seems like Dennis is on the right track.

Either use a voice set that includes pMobiles, OR do the setup for the Redlights first, OR use "Method 2" and put all the audio files in the "sounds" folder where the TomTom is expecting to see them.

AS I said in my previous post, the loop you are in is a typical case of corrupted mapsettings.cfg.
It happens because the system can't properly write the settings (so it doesn't progress).

There are several ways out of the loop, starting with a hard reset of the device and/or saving a Favourite. This most of the times allows to repair the mapsetting.cfg file.

But since it can happen again, I would suggest you follow the instructions of my previous post and let the system create a new mapsettings.cfg file (make a backup of the old file so you can go back if you wish so).

Yep, I agree - nothing to do with mapsettings.cfg
