With today's SatNavs having far more functions than just providing directions, it's quite likely that a passenger might want to operate it. |

This install suits the guy who created it, that's all that matters. I've seen plenty of people choose to mount their nav units to the right of the steering wheel as well.
If anyone wants their FSP to be able to interact with the satnav then they can position it to suit. The debate about positioning here seems a little churlish, no-one is mandating we all use them in this position are they _________________ Darren Griffin |

Not churlish at all, just pointing out disadvantages of the installation as I see them. Isn't that what 'Click here to discuss....' is for? |

Churlish was perhaps a poor choice of phrase. You raised issues such as passengers being able to operate it but it isn't a commercial product and it's not designed for the masses. It suits his needs so that is all that matters to him?
Yes, it wouldn't make an ideal install location for widespread use, perhaps that's the reason why we get windscreen mounts with satnav's and not sunvisor clips. But that's not the point here.
I posted it as an example of a very neat custom install circumventing issues such as TomTom's failure to re-introduce the power on with ignition feature etc. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Yeah but, no but, yeah but, I'm gonna keep my eyes open for a suitably blonde and buxom person to operate a satnav on my sun visor whilst sitting nicely on my lap! _________________ Dennis

Fair enough Darren but my comments stand as my view of the installation. |

On your dash? That's an odd place for a sun visor _________________ Darren Griffin |

Sat nav positioning is a matter of choice and functionality, but it should not be used by "the driver" when the vehicle is in motion, so a central position is usually used so the passenger could make changes to the unit.
I'd struggle with the visor one though as it'd be too close for me to focus on
I have mine on the rear view mirror in the camper, as we don't have a rear window, and the distance is just right, it's held in place with the Klett velcro type pads.

Bet it is a pain, doing map corrections and updates
though....either take the car to bits or drive it into the
living room to hook up to your PC |

At least the driver (s/he) if they have a quick glance will not have the screen rendered impossible to see from sunlight falling on the screen |

You're obviously not talking about a TomTom then....
They have stripped out all the additional functions. |

I think the final result is fantastic, even down to the mini logo on the screen.
Makes me wonder though, where has he put his cell phone and hands free device?
stuck on windscreen??? |
