POIs as destinations

I have recently bought a Go Live 1000 and am greatly disappointed to find that TomTom have removed the ability to navigate to or plan a journey to a distant POI (e.g. more than about 50 miles or 80kms away. This is an absolutely key piece of functionality, which was certainly available on my previous version of TomTom (v6). I probably selected more destinations by selecting POIs than by addresses, e.g. in my case to travel to:

• Caravan club sites and other holiday destinations
• WW1 memorials and cemeteries
• Key programmed locations such as channel tunnel or ferry access points, F1 circuit access points etc
• My family and friends are all POIs as I do not have all their addresses committed to memory
• Key shops and businesses
• Landmark Trust properties
• Other key planned destinations which I routinely create before holidays etc
• I use the created POIs a method of planning journeys and holidays and for working out best routes etc, e.g. I am taking a minibus of friends on a tour of Belgium and France shortly. The route is all planned via POIs, but if they are more than 50 miles apart I cannot navigate to my destination.

The work around offered is to select POI in city and find it that way, but frankly I don't know the nearest town or city to most of the above.

If you agree that this functionality is important and should be restored, please leave a short relevant message of support here and perhaps together we can get TomTom to take notice or is it just me and have I just wasted £250?

I agree 100% and have already complained to TomTom about it, in no uncertain terms!

Do please contact TT Customer Services about it, and also you should post about it on their own new web forum at http://discussions.tomtom.com/ as I think their "decision makers" may be keeping an eye on that at the moment.

What? Even the workaround has been broken? That explains why it didn't work for me a while ago. I certainly support this being restored.

Having found many times the POI is in the wrong place, I've always used Google Earth to find the coordinates and enter them. On my 120 the next page has 'P' (Car Park) highlighted, tap that to get Durham tees valley airport car park, selected it to set route.

Then Settings/Manage Favourites/Add/Recent Destination and added it as Favourite.

Then Navigate to Favourite and selected Durham Tees Car Park.

I've set up some Castles etc for when my wife and I visit Monmouthshire in May. I've started with e.g. 01 Cottage. 01 Castle A. 01 Castle B. etc, this keeps them at the top of the Favourites list and keeps them together.

Nothing like planning well ahead and not trust the Pratnav 100%. Very Happy

Out of curiosity I tried with Google Search facility on my 120 and it came up with.

2.2 mi Arriva Southern Counties Ltd
12.3 mi Hedgehog Development
13.1 mi Van Hire Southend on Sea
10.8 mi Business Link Kent.

It looks like I'd have to go by bus or hire DennisN. Razz

It's not making life any easier having to Google destinations & then download them to the Sat Nav. I know itineraries can be sent by Bluetooth but can a simple poi or destination be sent in the same way?

Whilst its possible to "swap" files such as POI using the x50 and earlier devices the newer units running Navcore 10 such as the Go-1000 which the OP has don't support this functionality - Mike

@IanS100.... Good God. How come I've glossed over that menu item for all these years?

What a great start.... I sat a Go940 and a Go950 next to each other, enabled Bluetooth on both then (not quite sure what to do next, I tapped "Connect to Bluetooth Device on the 950.
It founfd the 940 straight away, asked me to confirm that I wanted to connect and then came back with "TomTom Go 940 Live - The required features could not be found for this phone"

I tried again, just using the "Send file" screen and iit all works fine.
Files I can send are: Voices, POI category, Music file, Document, Photo, Colour Scheme, Itinerary, Car Symbol, Start-up Image, Ringtone.

So I guess the way to send a single POI or destination is to make an Itinerary with just that one location in it.
(or a new POI category with just one location in it would be just as good).

I did try Bluetoothing itn files to my phone & then to the TomTom when I got to the car which seemed to work ok but I can't see me using it on a regular basis.

Some years ago I seem to remember Road Angel coming up with a way of sending routes or destinations from PC to Sat Nav but at the time they implied it could be done over a distance, ie to the garage from the house before leaving home, that would be useful, pity they can't be sent via the 'Live' sim card!!

I also find only being able to add one 'via' rather inconvenient as I tend to drive for about 100-120 miles before taking a break and miss being able to add all the rest areas on route. Maybe TT will soon add an update for these and itineraries. (Was that a flying pink pig just pass by my window?)

Instead of starting your POI/Favourites with 01, maybe it would be better to start with 01 through to 30, at least they would all be on top in the order you require and not spread around in alphabetical order.
