Travelling through West Sussex on a daily basis between Petersfield and Crawley on the A272, I have noted the use of Police CCTV vans in sites where previous mobile sites have been noted.
The van's roof mounted camera is pointed towards the oncoming traffic stream, but the van appears not to be manned, and remains in position for several days before being moved on - either to be used for what it was intended for, or to cover another site.
So far I have seen this van located just North of Midhurst on the A272 Petersfield road, and in a layby at Wisborough Green.
Has anyone else noted this type of activity? Are the van's 'live', or just a deterrent. Whichever way, they're pretty effective. _________________ Today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday. |

Similar situation on the A320 near Ottershaw in Surrey. There's a mobile warning and the location sometimes has an ANPR van there. Not often, 3 or 4 times a year.
Usually there are loads of Police bikes in the vicinity waiting to pounce. _________________ DashCam:

Could be mobile ANPR, gathering information about us that they will keep for years and years.
Sometimes you see them with a police patrol further up. Maybe this one is just covering a road that they want to keep an eye on for certain people. _________________ Gone fishing! |
